How long do you drive your cars?

I drove a 1993 Camry for about seven years until it needed about $5k in repairs so I donated it. That was my first car ever (bough for $3k in college).

Then I went car free for about five years. Three years ago bought a used CRV, plan to drive it until the costs outweigh buying a new car. Hopefully at least ten years total.

Our family car is a base model 2008 Sienna. About 145K on it. Only paid it off in 2016 so would love to drive it a while longer.

Features on newer cars are tempting though...

I drive around in a 1999 Camry CE.

I've had the same car since I was 16 and I'm 30 now! We need to buy a new car soon because this one is almost dead.

drive until i can't any longer

As long as possible. Just bought a new one because our 2000 Ford Focus died this year, as an example. Going forward I think I'm going to aim for driving this one until about 6 months before the wheels fall off, instead of until it actually collapses.

What kind?

Just got a new one after 17 years

I'd say it's not just year, but mileage. I am still driving a 16 year old Honda. But it has super low mileage, 112k since a lot of that time we were in the city and taking metro or walking everywhere.

It could easily make it until 20 years most likely.

But I have a friend who drives all over the state for work and her 2010 Acura is about to die. However, she has 180K miles on it.

7-12 years depending on safety/repair costs

5-6 years (but I buy 2-3 year old cars.) I put about 18k miles/year on my car. So by the time I trade it, it has 150k or so. It allows me to have some money for a down payment toward the next car.

My 1999 Honda Accord is still going with 165K on it. Probably get a new car in a year or two.

Mine's a 2004 (really 2003) and it's still going strong with only 118k miles on it. I do plan to buy another one at some point, but I really like (a) not having a car payment, (b) paying almost nothing for property tax and (c) not caring that much when someone door-dings or scratches my car during a careless parking job.

My dad makes fun of me because I haven't had AC for a couple of years now. It was an expensive repair that was diagnosed in a year with other expensive repairs, and now I think it's just stubbornness keeping me from fixing it. I'm a "windows down" girl most of the time anyway, but it sucks not to have AC when it rains.

Our current cars are soon to be 15 and just turned 11.

The 15 year old one had the check engine light pop on two days ago ad I think something is actually wrong with it and I'm bummed. It only has 33k miles on it and I was hoping to run it into the ground.

10+ years! However, dh is a car guy and would prefer a new car every 3-5 years.
