Three months before our wedding, my husband broke his leg. Sat at home on the couch eating donuts for a month or more. Then did very little other than basic physical therapy.
He lost 20 pounds or so. At the same time, I was eating salad and starving myself so I could fit into my dress. I only lost weight when the wedding got close and I stopped eating because I was too nervous. When I was dieting - I didn't lose any weight. I thought I would burn some calories just being so mad/jealous. |
Man here, I lose weight easier than my wife but there are a few things you need to keep in mind when trying to lose weight. First, cardio. That burns a lot of calories. Second, use weights. Women would use smaller ones (I’ve seen them in Target) and as it gets easy you go to the next level. Another trick is more reps at the lower weight because muscle burns more calories while resting. You won’t get to the level of your husband but you can get more than you have now.
Lastly, nutrician information on packaging is....sexist. Servicing sizes are based on a 2,000 calorie diet which is a man’s calorie intake. A woman’s is usually 1,500. |
I swear DH willed himself to lose 10 pounds this fall. We pulled out all the cold weather clothes and he realized they were getting tight. |
You need to lift weights and not just rely on dieting. |
Yes, thank you! Who do you see strength training and using the free weights at the gym? Deadlifting and squatting? Men. Who are the ones running like hamsters on the treadmills for an hour? Women. Women do themselves a disservice by sabotaging their own weight loss goals by starving and dieting instead of stepping up to train smart. |
Weight watchers follower here. I've lost 30 pounds. DH, not following the plan, also lost 30 pounds. He calls it being weight watchers adjacent. |
This is basically the story of every couple ever that has tried to lose weight together. It's super frustrating, OP, I get it. |
DH does nothing and has never gained an ounce since he was 18 or so. In fact, he weighs the same at night as he does in the morning, whereas at night I'm always up 3lbs. |
Ha, it's OP. Just noticed my post is back up. Yeah, here we are a month later and still the same. I decided to try intermittent fasting, 16:8. Been a week, so far still nada. Also I'm f@#(ing hungry by 10 am.

Yes but are you using weights? Get some weights and use them 3 times a day. It will help and as long as they aren’t gigantic you won’t look huge or anything, just toned. |
Don't even need weights, there are plenty of bodyweight exercises you can do. |
This thread is why I wonder how men could be overweight at all. They also don't gain 30lbs with each kid that they have to lose. |
It would be funny if this was Jeff’s wife poking fun since he just posted about losing weight. And congrats Jeff that’s hard to do. |
I could've written the original post, but no, it wasn't me. I lost around 30lb few years back myself. Over couple years. But I hurt my knees and it has been struggle to exercise like I used to. I've gained 10lb since and been trying to get them off by diet and moderate exercise. Mainly core-work, walking, etc. Maria |
Props to you for staying motivated Maria! I struggle with the ups and downs as well. I am at the exact same lost 30 gained 10. We got this. |
