I'd say for close-in to downtown definitely look at Seaton and Thomson. Then, also Cleveland and Garrison.

Probably in that order, though Thomson might edge out Seaton because of its IB curriculum.

Thomson hasn't let in an OOB in years.

That's just not true. I know at least two OOB PK3 families there right now.

This is entirely related to the crumminess of the middle school feeder pattern, not to the quality of the elementary school, though.

Not entirely. Bancroft and Shepherd both feed to Deal, and the 4th/5th decline is 6% at the former and 12.2% at the latter.

Brent, Amidon-Bowen, and Tyler all feed to Jefferson, and the rates are -70.2%, -15.2%, and -29.4%

Garrison and Seaton both feed into Cardozo, and Garrison loses 18.5% while Seaton loses 3.3%

Or Maury/Miner/Payne.

Some of this is the SES of the students, some is feeder pattern, some is proximity to charters that start in 5th, some is taking 5th graders through the lottery, some is the quality (or perceived quality) of the school itself or its 5th grade teachers, or what the staff is telling families about their middle school options. But if OP wants a school where a lot of kids stay, this can be useful. Presumably, she can already look up things like test scores, feeder patterns, and the location of each school. This is another data point that speaks directly to retention.

Interesting. This link suggests otherwise:

Maybe the families you know are boundary cheaters?

There are 6 kids on that list that could be OOB.

And that list was from April 1. Some lists move a lot.

I would add SWW@Francis to the list. Increasingly in boundary in the early years, but still opens up some OOB spaces.

+1

Thomson is adding another Pre-K class next year, so it will be a good year for OOB to try to get in

How so? It says 0 matches with no preference.

Agree the lists could have moved, although they did waitlist some IB families as well.

Thomson also edges out Seaton because of the feeder pattern. Rather go to SWW-FS than immediately on to Cardozo.

Dramatically out of date report for Brent in just two years. When NPR ran the story, only 9 or 10 kids from 4th had stayed at Brent for 5th. This year, 40 have stayed. Mary and SWS have experienced a similar phenomenon.
