Well, I was impressed with Burroughs, but it isn't really hidden anymore. I thought Langley's principal was good and I liked their Conscious Discipline stuff. I have a handful of potential schools at the bottom of my list, all ward 5 neighborhood schools, and can only list a few. But I think Langley will be one of them. |
Burroughs is a gem for Early Childhood “if” you get the right teachers. As a happy parent that was there for ECE, it’s unfortunate that leadership has not made the necessary staff changes that need to happen for this school to be great. The quality of liking kids should have been considered when staffing. If you get in make sure you get the nice teachers. You will know right away. As far as beyond PK, more staffing changes are needed. Wonderful building, great location, very engaging teachers if you get the right ones. I also wish there were more neighborhood kids at Burroughs, There aren’t many Brookland kids there. |
| Balllou was there too. I felt bad for them. I’m not sure who would stop by that table unless they want to ask about the scandal. |
Pp here, not sure we would get into Burroughs OOB. The chances at Langley are not 100% anymore but I think it is a great option if you need a safety-ish school that you feel good about. |
| I liked talking to the school that had some parent representatives there as well. Most were pretty forthcoming and honest. |
Why would they not show up? |
|
It is unnecessary event... we are meeting with personnel and programs in 2017 that will change by 2018. We have charters and dcps in competition for the same demographics. You wont have Costco and Sam's sharing the same parking lot. This one stop shop mentality is not for these parents. On-line if school choice was run by Amazon then tge efficiency would me noticeable.
Forgot that Twan and Murrie showed their faces and left. The elephant in the room was Ballou. The unofficial and some may say noticeable absence of some high school principals. Coincidence or solidarity for Ballou |
Someone had a cocktail tonight. |
...or 2 or 3...or 8. LOL
|
But true though, mostly for show at middle and high school level! All DCPS schools have to show up and show off and show out! So Ballou had to step to it ... |
| I wish that DC would send that amateur chancellor Antwad W. back to Oakland from whence he came. |
I'm genuinely interested in why you say that? What situations/experiences led you to make such a comment so early in his tenure? |
Not PP, but rumor has it he exited Oakland after only a few years because he went way over budget. I always wondered why his time there was so short. |
Not really a rumor. Well documented. Bowser has given up. |
The bottom line is that there are maybe three superintendents nationwide who have managed to make a real difference in urban school districts. Hiring a new chancellor is just shuffling the deck chairs; there isn't some giant pool of proven candidates. I've lived here through the last 7 chancellors. They come in, make a bunch of changes that sound good on paper, but are unsupported by research, and then go. |
