Senate floor is a sea of white guys

What's your point?

The white guys in the old boys club are going to keep screwing those of us who are not a part of their club unless we join together and vote as a block. What they are doing with this tax bill is outrageous but they get away with it because we let them. Do you really think that a Senate made up of nearly half women and with more men of color would have voted to push forward a tax bill that no one had really read, that the CBO and Joint Committee on Taxation said would balloon the deficit and mortgage our children's futures, that the Treasury Dept. had never even analyzed, would raise taxes on middle, lower, and working class Americans, the poor, college students, the elderly and give money to the billionaires in Trump's cabinet including the wife of the Senate majority leader. I don't think so. I really don't. I really hope that those of you that are outraged by this tax reform sham will work to vote out every single one of these greedy bottom feeders that care more about pleasing their wealthy donors like the Kochs & the Mercers than they do about the men and women that elected them.

It is 303 days until the 2018 House and Senate races. It's time to get to work supporting candidates. If you live in DC like I do, you need to help elect people that will look out for us in other states. Our taxes are going up and we don't even have a Senator or Member of Congress to call who can actually vote. It's time to Rise Up like the colonists did in Hamilton. They won because they outwitted the British. If we pull together we can certainly outwit these turn coat windbags. Anyone who is already active, please post what you are doing so those of us who want to can join you. I don't know about the rest of you but I am a #metooer like e.v.e.r.y s.i.n.g.l.e s.o.l.i.t.a.r.y woman I know and I am so sick and tired of it. I want better for my daughter. I want better for my son. As Dana Nessel who is running for Attorney General in Michigan said--"Who can you trust to not show you their penis in a professional setting? Is it the candidate who doesn't have a penis? I'd say so"

It's like there are three addiction epidemics sweeping the nation - money, opioids, and delusion.

I don't discount white men, or lower income people, or rural areas of the country. If we want to turn this around, we have to stop believing and talking as if people are just stupid. Yes, some very clearly are but they're outnumbered. Despite that, the public discourse is still carried out on the terms of stupid people.

I think the first step is simply to stop talking to those people. They always identify themselves - make a note of that and move on.

Flipping things at the national level has to be grassroots - state and local level - because that's how Republicans did it.

It is not immoral unless you think the history and governance of the United States is immoral. With you patronizing, elitist attitude, I understand your unfortunate judgment. Keep it up, and the optic will not change.

Okay.

This is Exhibit A of tactics to keep public discourse on terms stupid people can understand. It’s distraction, and I’m sure it’s not what OP was going for.

We need to find our allies and build coalition with smart people. What’s happening right now is the realized fantasy that started decades ago, when the people carrying it out could count on the attitudes like the one PP here exhibits. When everything is pulled out from beneath you, you can still hang on to that.

How about the rest of us - and that includes smarter white men, because there are plenty - think more constructively?

You're sure? Really? It's right there in black and white. WTF were they going for if not for that?

The history and governance of the United States IS immoral. It has succeeded in shifting the terms of morality so off skew that most people don’t even recognize what’s right and wrong anymore.

You're right, but I'd hope that just once they see the reprecussions for voting in corporate backed hacks. I really hope Paul Ryan is able to privatize social security. I really would like to see Medicare and Medicaid chopped down to nothing. We have w to thank for Medicare part d. I really hope big pharma gets to set the prices to life saving medications - free market right? I can't wait to pay for access to websites once the FCC does away with net neutrality. So much winning!

So much paranoia it sounds like.

There should be a term limit. I also would like to see the house and senate resembles the general population. Kick them all out, drain the swamp.

Yep. Wanna make a change? Contribute or volunteer for Run for Something, Flippable or ShestheTicket. Work on signing people up to vote then offer to drive them to the polls.

It took Dems 15+ years to get into this mess, it's gonna take some time to get out... The only thing you CANNOT DO is inaction and only post on Twitter or listserves.

1/3 of the Dems in the Senate are women. The other side is dragging down the average.

I do not like all elements of these tax plans - same with the ACA. What do you include in general population? http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/01/24/115th-congress-sets-new-high-for-racial-ethnic-diversity/

Early AM on 12-2-17 I finished a movie and flipped on the senate show-C Span. Sen Kaine-D-VA has an amendment in the voting process to reverse the repeal of ATM. Yays and nays were odd-less than 30 and over 60. Heard the name Booker-D-NJ. Voted nay with the R's.

Tax code is complex and simplifying individual returns will reduce fraud. I'm a Democrat and not in favor of much of what some R's spout. Sen Toomey-R-PA talked about what is in property taxes and compared townships. In PA and NJ there are towns and townships surround them. One might include trash and leaves in taxes which increase the taxes by ie 550 in a FX sanitary district. That gets written off on federal returns. Another might exclude it and people pay privately. A third could provide the services but send a separate bill therefore excluding it from a FIT deduction. One place I lived billed about 1500 annually and another had 2x week pickup at the back door plus leaves totaling about 1500. Those smaller jurisdictions have expenses that are far more traceable and taxpayers are more reactive.

Fairfax buries costs. Well now that my SALT is likely to be gone I want market rates for the 44-45000 households getting cheap services.

Fairfax County has municipal leaf and trash in some neighbrhoods. Below market rates.

Um ok. What does that have to do with anything? Why are you on this thread then?

just saw the show in the Ford's theater. You know, it is very small theater. I was shocked to see 100% whites, except few minorities on the stage. What are you going to do about that OP? Organize your gang and force them to attend every show?

If you think governance will teach people what is right or wrong, I can understand your inability to recognize immorality.
