Wayside Elementary

My kids are no longer there, but they definitely had friends who were part of the FARMS program. These parents went out of their way to make sure their kids were in a school with a LOW FARMS rate. They wanted their kids to be educated, not be in class with lots of kids who may not have enough to eat at home which can lead to other problems at school.

I think argument of no FARMs may be coming due to numbers being too low when compared to rest of MCPS. Since it's less than 5% , some will say that it's insignificant and close to zero. Anyway, this information can verified by looking at fact sheets and an another poster already posted details earlier.

Let's provide some more useful feedback to OP. I do have child in Wayside, but no experience with SPED to comment on that. I do like this school. Area does have money and sometime you will find folks who are not grounded, but it comes with this territory. You will always find such people in richer areas.

Please enlighten us with what communities have MPDU's in Wayside?

No it does not. Please stop. Wayside, Potomac, and Beverly Farms have less than 5% but they actually have to be less than 1.5% because Hoover which has all 3 of those schools as feeders and it is also has less than 5% Which we all know means like possibly 1-2% meaning 10 kids in a middle school for a 1000.

You need some help with math.

We toured it when we moved here from the West Coast. It was on our list of top 4 schools in the area but it was hard to find somewhere to rent in the boundary.

We ended up in a different Bethesda area ES where we rented then bought, but we thought very highly of the Wayside school when we visited it.

Does MCPS schools provide tours if you request? I wasn't aware of it. Thanks for this idea. I will still love to hear from current parents.

Yes, but you have to phone the front office. Every school has different policies regarding when tours are taken, if they are group or private, if they are run by PTA members or the Principal etc. We found the tours given by the Principal to be the most helpful. Also we requested a lot of flexibility regarding dates of tours because we were literally in the area for one week from the West coast. This was also only 18 months ago so I seriously doubt the whole area has given up on doing tours in that amount of time.

100% positive that Clagett Farm and Potomac Glen both have HOC and MPDU units and feed into Wayside. Churchill has the Scotland neighborhood zoned to it. You don't know what you are talking about.

Also, if you read the top of your link, it specifically says that the listing does not include scattered or mixed income HOC units which is what they have in Potomac Glen and Clagett Farm. Those units are located in many of the newer developments.

Indeed there is at least one HOC unit in Clagett Farm, because I found it in the state property records. (Yes, I looked. I'm geeky that way.)

Since Scotland isn't zoned for Wayside, how is it relevant?

The MPDU units in Clagett are at least 17 years old, which means they can be sold at market rate.
