Hi! My daughter used them neither. She has been using beestar.org. It is a great online web site and offers curricular-based exercises of math, English language art, science, etc. These exercises are very interesting, full of interesting stories, pictures, and also many practical problems. It looks good. My daughter loves it very much.

Hi, Nicole, I would like to know how is your daughter going along with Beestar. My son has been doing the free math practice there since last year, and now I plan to register him in another program while keeping math going. Is there any suggestion?

After 1 and a half year of Score we stop going because he was getting too far ahead.

My son is in 3rd grade now, his math is at 4th grade level, but I've been tutoring him myself on a daily basis.

I now think parents should spend time with their kids doing this themselves. You, as a parent, should take charge and be his primary teacher. All kinds of workbook out there (reading/math/ you name it) to help you as parent to do this with your kids.

I think its OK to supplement it with tutoring, be it Kumon or Score but don't totally oursource it to them. Don't leave it all up to the school neither.

My 2 cents.

i agree! gosh, i have never seen people "hire out" every aspect of their lives like this until i moved to dc! i'm all for a little help but gosh - hire out someone to raise your kids, teach them how to ride a bike, teach them to sleep?, now the one thing you could do with your kid to bond ie: being involved with their learning, you are hiring out? yikes!

I suggest you try Beestar. http://www.beestar.org/index.jsp
It is a website full of free math practice. And it also has English Language, Social Studies, and G&T Math programs requiring some payment. I registered my son last year, and he really loves it! Why not have a try? I don't want to waste money on Kumon, because I don't think it's that good.

Hmm, Beestar seems good. I would like to know, besides free math, how much other programs cost. Kumon is also good, but it is really expensive for us. I need to find other useful and cheap programs for my daughter.
Thanks!

sounds expensive to me. how much do teachers make a year nowadays?

I don't understand $50.00 hr is to much.. you must be kidding me.. I'm not a teacher but I will tell you they don't get paid enough to teach our children. They are teaching our future leaders.. Teaching what the parents can not do or do not have the passion to do.

You must be right that we need to give the best things for children. But I am just try to balance the in-and-out for life expenses. I heard that Beestar GTm is great, and it costs &30 a semester. I would like to register it for my daughter. Thank you for the reminding. I would always think about the benefit of my daughter. Wendy
