What can you tell me about the University of Vermont?

I know tons of UVM law alumni - it's one of the top environmental law programs in the U.S. That said, I don't know many who went there for undergrad. (I'm in the environmental field.)

The kids at UVM are good solid students, but not the best. At least when I taught there, there were a number of kids from the bottom of their prep school class. There was a lot of pot.

On the other hand, I had some very sharp students, lots of students with serious outdoor skills who were very interesting. I enjoyed my colleagues. UVM is a research university but they take their teaching responsibilities seriously and do a good job.

Vermont Law, located in South royalton, VT, is not part of UVM. And yes, it has a great environmental law program.

My DD toured this past year and liked it a lot. Burlington is a great small city--plenty to do downtown and the lake and mountains so close. To me, it seemed like a place where the students worked plenty during the week and spend weekends either skiing, hiking or partying...i.e., not a joke but not super-rigorous, either.

But UVM has a 3+2 program with Vermont Law School, and a close relationship. And VLS does have a good environmental law program https://www.uvm.edu/admissions/undergraduate/university_vermont_vermont_law_school_32_program

I went there for undergrad... for two weeks. Then I cried my eyes out and asked my dad to pick me up. Best decision I ever made because it wasn’t a good fit for me at all.

I went there for elementary education.
I had a lot of fun.
College of Education is very weak.

UVM is stronger in environmental science and nursing/PT.

Students are cra cra liberal - Bernie Bros
Not much diversity in terms of political thought as it is run by liberals who tend to have a hard time dealing with oppositional thoughts.

Burlington is a great little city but homeless kids tend to run wild in the Church Street area. Burlington is COLD in winter and surprisingly doesn't get much snow.

The campus has seen a lot of upgrades in the last 10 or so years.
It could be a good match if your child likes the ski or hike, learn outdoor skills....
\Lots of rich preppy kids from NY, NJ, CT, MA. Lots of lower middle c
lass kids who may have never been on an airplane from VT.

Burlington has 'welcomed' lot of African refugees and unskilled immigrants from eastern Europe. Kind of a liberal experiment going bad for the community, though.

Most expensive public school in US. That is why it is called public ivy

No, it's called a public ivy for this reason: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Ivy

Two weeks barely gives you time to get to know the campus, much less anything else.

Pathetic.

Interesting. I would have put UVM on the runners-up list. It places way lower in most rankings than the rest of the public ivies on that list.
