Yep. Soccer comes first. If it's a late game, maybe we can squeeze church in. Have been to church in uniform sometimes. God doesn't care! |

The advice I have gotten in the past is that for U9-U12, go for convenience, playing time, and generally a good experience. When child is older you re-evaluate with a new set of priorities, depending on your child's interest and commitment.
My kids have played for McLean and the coaching is very inconsistent. Also... I am not a huge fan of CCL. The competition is very uneven. I think that this is true in most leagues in the early years but everyone seemed to think that CCL would be different--but it isn't. So you have the big distances and the built-in negatives without the promised positives. |
there is usually a 48-72 hour acceptance based on deposit, so it realy make sense to have a good idea of whats what as tryouts can be weeks apart. |
But a note of caution (and I know a troll will show up to claim this is a humble brag and I think my kid is a Messi or Pusilic, that he is already on his way for a college scholarship, etc,.... which I don't). If your son is likely to play for a top team, you might not want to go to the 1st tryout at a less competitive club. If your child is good, you might get an immediate offer that expires in a couple of days, and that kind of kills your flexibility to determine if you like that team and club. A few years back, during our son's U10 tryouts, he got 3 offers from other teams before he accepted a top team at a large club. We wanted him to have the tryout experience and to get to know the other teams and players. But since we did not accept the initial offer from the various clubs, we couldn't really go back to their 2nd or 3rd tryout. After the 1st tryout, they kind of put kids in slots and make some offers. So if you do not show until the 2nd tryout, they will be less likely to make an immediate offer since they are waiting to hear back from some other kids. Others may have different experiences, that was our experience. If your child is just hoping to get on any travel team and may not be destined for the top team, then go to all the tryouts. |
Let me guess, your son plays for McLean, Arlington, or Loudon. Those parents are the worst at showboating their kids thinking they are superior because they wear $100 cleats at U9. Just kidding, I actually agree with you, but you know you will offend some asshat and their view of soccer parents. |
| Do you think its for the best for them to combine with Reston? I heard they were voting on it now. |
| 12:27 - in my experience, if church is very important to you, you don't commit to a team that primarily plays on Sundays. The very religious families I know all stuck with rec or developmental vs. trying for Travel. |
At the U9, U10 ages in CCL, you don't travel that much for a game, mostly play Arlington, Loudon, Ellicot City, DC Stoddert, Potomac. As you get older, you might start heading to tournaments n Richmond, or Scrimmagfest out in BFE. |
Incorrect. Not might, you WILL. At U11 age in CCL, you will have games against Roanoke, VA Beach, Richmond, Charlottesville, and VA Legacy (Williamsburg). CCL Guy should be here any minute to tell you that the choice is yours, and CCL is a great developmental league for ULittles (U9-U12)!!! Truth is CCL is a LOT of driving at U11 age and above, just to play average or inferior teams, especially if you are at one of the Big 3. |
Those are for older players, U9-U11 is all local travel in CCL. |
Yeah, this way Reston gets to be in CCL, I think that is a very good reason for merging. When it comes to training, rec, other non-travel activities, there wouldn't be any reason to merge. |
Not true. Our DC is on CCL U11 team and plays all those teams. U9 and U10 are local, because it is a separate "offshoot" of CCL for only the northen group that agreed to do it. CCL is a REGIONAL league that requires travel to all of southern VA at some point. At least be factual. |
I wasn't aware that Great Falls was in CCL? I'm pretty sure they are a NPL club. |
|
They are not part of CCL but if you do join one that is part of CCL they bundle the away games for example, you will play the Chancellorsville team on Saturday and the Roanoke team on Sunday.
It sucks for those southern teams because most teams are up this way. |
| If neither Great Falls or Reston is in CCL why are the benefits of CCL being discussed in a thread about Great Falls? |
