nice try pr dept. mymcps has been around for over 7 years. plenty of time to work out the glitches. |
| This is a very expensive mistake made by the district but they have to undo it. There are many other good educational software programs. I agree that the choice should also be reviewed to ensure no inappropriate influence. |

I actually like MyMCPS. It contained everything that my kid has done so far in the three years of MS. Kiddo is in 8th grade BTW.
MyMCPS was already being used by the MCPS employees for years Edline was never being used correctly and fully by the teachers. Grades were never posted on time. Anyways, with budget cuts I am sure they are thinking of ways to shrink costs. |
| Has anyone been able to login to the app? I can login but not to the app. |
Is there a phone app for the portal? |
| A question regarding the grade history. What does F1 mean? Can you see all the previous grades from all marking periods? |
Yes, there's a phone app. I received the password for the app separately and later. |
|
The app has a different login/password than the one on the computer. Mine was sent via email later, if you don't have it, contact your school's guidance/counseling office.
I like it much befter than Edline in terms of viewing grades/absences. As far as assignments, since both of my MS and HS kids teachers don't use it, sucks. For that I blame MCPS. They rolled it out late, didnt train ths teachers in how to use it. |
No. The myMCPS used by teachers is different than MyMCPS Classroom. Not the same platform at all. I’m the OP btw and have no complaint with myMCPS which I still use several times a day. However, when I look at Gradebook on my desktop and a student’s MyMCPS Classroom account on his or her Chromebook and see dramatically different grades, we have a problem. I’m ready to start printing out grade reports every Friday like it’s pre-Edline. The issue with teachers not updating grades in Gradebook (Edline can only pull what is in Gradebook) is different than teachers updating grades in Gradebook, but MyMCPS Classroom not pulling them or posting ones that are inaccurate. |

PP, this is a very helpful statement, as I've been frustrated by how long it takes to see grade updates (e.g., my kid says they did a retake and grade improved but a week later the grade is the same; my kid says they spoke to their teacher about a mistaken grade but 2 weeks later it is not changed). In most cases, the timeliness doesn't matter too much, but occasionally it's important in terms of my interactions with my kid... One thing I've noticed is that a lot of times, the app tends to be less up-to-date than the webpage-- probably the app isn't refreshing or something. When you are comparing your interface to theirs, are you looking at the main mymcps webpage, or do chromebooks have something more like the phone app? |
| I think they could work out the kinks and it could be fine. But let's get on it! The lack of assignments as a step back from Edline is problematic. The delay in updating grades (when teachers says they have but it sometimes does not appear for weeks) is a problem. Being unable to calculate grade because sometimes assignments are weighted 2, 3 or 4 times is a problem. I could list a few more. I do like having announcements, prior grades, attendance in one place etc. Not all bad, but please fix the kinks -- especially the lack of assignments, test materials, etc. This is for the kids not the parents. They should not have each class in a difference application. |
| i hate MCPS Portal and does nothing for our family. |
OK. I think MCPS Portal is a big improvement over Edline. Now we have two reactions. |
|
We like MyMCPS. It works as expected..we login to website and not the app. Sure, some grades are delayed but that is not fault of the software. As soon as teacher enter the grade we get an email notification as well.
I wish they can provide the detailed MAP score report in MyMCPD too...and also haven't seen SSL hours in it..so these both are missing but else is great. |

As a MCPS teacher I can say that all MCPS teachers were not properly trained on myMCPS classroom. We were told about it at the last time and summer trainings were only 3 hours long. The trainings did not provided a teacher enough information on how to create assignments or even how to grade assignments in the portal and then some. When people asked very specific questions at the training on how to use the portal. They went unanswered because the people leading the training didn't know . In October we had a MyMCPS classroom "expert" come to a staff meeting. It again was a speed through about the portal. She couldn't answer all the questions.
I still use Google Classroom as it is more student friendly and all students are very familiar with by now. So if a teacher hasn't updated the MyMCPS classroom the above information kinda of explains why. Unless |
