I would have to say yes. Remember that prior to any procedure the MD is required to discuss the procedure to include any potential risks. Be sure to ask them what equipment they use. The two most commonly used pieces of equipment is the Mogan and Gomco. I would trust either. OBs use what they were trained on. I would not be so apt to trust the plastibell (an older technique/equipment). Than ask what kind of anesthetic is used. In my hospital they either use EMLA cream which is applied to the penis 45 mins prior to the procedure to help numb the penis. Or there is Lidocaine which is injected into the penis 5 mins prior to the procedure. I personally like the lidocaine and see better results in terms of pain management. Be aware that there are some OBs who use none at all. If you do not desire this, you an ALWAYS stipulate that they either use an anesthetic OR request another OB.
Also, nurses are very protective of their patients, especially the babies. We would not tolerate any OB who did not execute a competent circ. Although this is a pretty simple procedure there are risks and nurses always monitor for these complications both during as well as after the procedure. If we felt an OB compromised a patient, that would not go unnoticed or unaddressed. |
PP, thanks so much for this information. I really appreciate it! |
