Best Elementary School in Georgetown (or other urban neighborhood)?

Yuck Cleveland Park.

It will get you a nice house. Not VERY nice. But it is in a way nicer neighborhood than Georgetown or Cleveland Park.

Republicans live in Virginia. Do yourself a favor and don't quote dictionary definitions of "urban" to those of us who actually live an urban life.

Cleveland Park is great location and easy to live car-free.

And northern Virginia is incredibly liberal, for anyone that has bothered to cross the Potomac. It is diverse and liberal.

Umm. The dictionary definition of urban is actually what urban means. I think that OP knows what she meant. I think that you are looking for another word/descriptor and that you also have a HUGE CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER? Where did OP say she was Republican? Are you that prejudiced against Dallas? Rude.

Other areas to think about. West end (School without Walls @ Francis); Dupont (Ross); Adams Morgan (Oyster Adams).

Wow... this is all so helpful! I feel like we have honed in on Georgetown b/c of its name familiarity. I like the suggestions of where we can get more bang for our buck. I will start looking around some of these other places. And I would like being near a metro (and had no idea Georgetown is not good for this). So again, thank you for your replies!

If you want to be near metro, definitely do not buy in Georgetown.

Why would someone say "Yuck" to Cleveland Park? I don't want to spin my wheels there if its truly that bad.

If you’te willing to move for middle school, buy inbound for Brent. If not, AU Park.

Cleveland Park is fine. People on this site can be terrible. You just need to tune out the nonsense and focus on people offering useful advice.

Re: Georgetown, the reason why there is no Metro there is that residents rallied to oppose public transportation in the neighborhood. Just...that's the kind of place Georgetown is. It's not anywhere I'd want to live -- too insular and too caught up in remaining insular.

Yes this about Georgetown.

And I’m not surprised someone said yuck about Cleveland park. People here are so snobby about their specific neighborhood. I’d look at AU Park or Cleveland park.

Cleveland Park is very pretty with great metro access and tons of families with kids that go to a mix of public and private schools.

You're going to get a range of opinions on DCUM -- mostly not politely stated and a very wide range of informed an uninformed. Also, you don't have to be a member to post, you may want to stop using a 'member' handle that might unless you might want people to identify you IRL - most people who do "DCUM" do it anonymously (hence the range of tones and informed level of things).

think backward from your goals of what you want for a school and neighborhood & then talk to real people not on a random list serve.
