It's an executive functioning, organizational skills and self advocacy class. Which we forced our ADHD MS DC2 into kicking and screaming. And she ended up really getting a lot out of it and asking to take for a second semester. I think it is way under utilized, and most MS kids-- especially boys, whose EF skills develop later, but also ADHD girls and girls who tend to be perfectionist/anxious/overwhelmed should absolutely take it. It would have saved so much grief if we had known about it for DC1. All MSs have it. And I have heard that in some it is a glorified study hall. Which is a shame. My kid ended the year keeping up with homework, blocking out large assignments, checking on her own grades in Gradebook, finding something was missing, and going to resolve it with the teacher, and getting a 4.0 in a competitive AAP Center with ADHD.

Would you mind sharing which middle your kids attend? I hope it's the same one we are zoned for, my DCs could really use this.

PP. We are Carson. But every MS has the class. There is just uneven implementation from what I have heard parents say.

At my child’s school, Strategies is basically a study hall/free period. I don’t think it’s really teaching organization skills

My DS is taking Strategies at Longfellow and is it really helpful for him to get himself organized, particularly with regard to laying out what he has to do for HW each day (as well as getting a start on some of the assignments). He is so glad that he is taking it.

Can anyone speak to how Strategies is implemented at Twain? I pray it's beneficial and not just a study hall.
