I am really big on sleep. Important for long term health and learning. We don't skimp on sleep.

When does he do his homework? Serious question.

I am not that poster, but mine goes to sleep at 8, so 15 minutes later. He does his homework after school. If he has an after school activity then it's after that before or after dinner. He doesn't have a ton of work, usually 30 minutes total of studying, plus maybe 10 - 20 minutes more a few nights a week on math or language arts, and extra time studying for a few nights before a test.

There is a good chunk of time between when school is out and 8pm. At 7, we do one on one time with card games, basketball, pillow fights, etc., and at 7:30 we read together, so that hour is usually not used for homework. Today the first half hour was, for extra time studying for a test tomorrow. This was due to an after school activity so he was starting an hour after school let out, and he wanted to play outside for a bit before starting.

They do not do chores during the week other than emptying/filling the dishwasher and walking the dogs.

It fits. What is taking up the time, or what are we not doing? Does yours have more homework?

Yes, he does have a lot of homework. He also goes to a magnet so he's got a longer bus ride both ways. I probably need to push him to focus better and get it done quicker.

Does he do work on the bus? He could do it both to and from. Mine does some homework before school, too, if needed.

I think it depends on the kid. I have never needed more than 6 hours a night all of my life, sometimes less. I don't require mine to go to bed at a certain time because I remember exactly how I was, and I remember how much I needed. I have one who will go to bed at 9 and one who stays up until 1 or 2. They both wake up at the same time fully rested. I grew up on a farm and I remember that as soon as the roosters crowed, I jumped out of bed, no matter how late I stayed up, so I let them set their own schedules according to what they need.

Depends. Is your child tired? Then no.
