You don't even have to keep buying them if you plant them. Amaze balls !!!

Just break up the roots some before planting (because they'be grown into the pot) and water them a lot initially until the roots are established.

they are planted in full sun in the ground. anything in a pot would have dried up to a crisp last week without daily soakings. We are dry as a bone. Tons of dead leaves on the ground from the trees.

They will likely take them back but that doesn't change the fact that in all honesty you likely caused them to die and so it's not Costco's fault. But the world is a dishonest place so go get your money back. Personally I would feel guilty for in essence stealing.

Ignore the naysayers, OP. I returned a lavender plant to Costco that died after a week, the cashier didn't bat an eye. I spend a shit ton of money at Costco as I assume you do if you're there as frequently as you say, I don't feel bad about returning things.
