Wow-that's 1000$/head. That must have been some party!

Holy Cow! I can't believe people are spending these amounts on a wedding. Glad I have 2 boys.

1997 - $15k, 200 guests

Also about $20k all in (including clothes, jewelry, invites, etc). 2011, about 200 people, rented out a restaurant on a Sat night, food and booze included.

About $20,000
Too much in retrospect.
Would rather have put it toward investments or a house.

100 people, Washington, DC 2011, 27k. I did EVERYTHING myself, but splurged on food, drinks and location.

2009, a country club in VA suburbs. Sunday lunch wedding, 100 people, we had an ironclad budget of 10K that was exceeded by, I think, $300.

This does not include my ring or my dress (about $800).

$5000, Alaska, 50 guests. Somehow, we were able to afford (with that cost) an airbnb for an after party, favors, food, and it was all-you-can-drink. We used an ipad for the DJ, I made the cake & appetizers, and all the decor/flowers were DIY.

2013, abroad, $30K, 120 people. No parents' contributions, paid ourselves. Does not include my ring.

What does having boys have to do with it? My kids are young but we will set aside the same amount of cash for each of their weddings - if they eloped or don't marry or someone else wants to pay they can have the money as cash.

PP above- we took the cash option with out $50k budget 14 years ago and eloped. Bought an investment property instead.
