Yes, that would definitely need to be addressed. They could always expand Hoover (which they should have considered when they did the remodel) and move the balance of the CJMS kids there. It's really not an ideal situation when ALL of Hoover goes to Churchill and just a small number of CJMS kids. |
The capacity of Hoover is 1,139 students. How much bigger do you want a middle school to be? |
|
Enrollment at Hoover last year was 1,017 (capacity 1,139). Enrollment at Frost last year was 1,107 (capacity 1,084). Enrollment at Cabin John last year was 969 (capacity 1,097). |

I'm not a fan of split articulation but there are more schools that do it.
Howard County does it particularly the southern part which I looked at briefly. Where students can split out between Reservoir, Hammond, River Hill and maybe Atholton. It even starts at elementary school. Where a group of students can start out together in elementary school, split up in middle school and then go to the same high school. This might happen even more with the rezoning they're talking about. In Montgomery County there's a middle school that splits with Northwest and Quince Orchard. I think it would be kind of nice if students were just sent to their closest school geographically. There's one school, where the homes are literally the next street over doesn't go to that school and the kids are bussed further away. (the homes on Taunton Drive which is right next to Shady Grove Middle School) |
This is also the case for the homes off S Fallsmead Way for high school. The walking path along Wootton Pkwy goes right to Wootton High School. The children all go to Richard Montgomery High School. |
| Wootton does not want the people living on the southside of Fallsmead Rd, from what I have heard. |
Wootton (whoever you mean by Wootton) does not make these decisions. |
| I see they have a major teacher vacancy (dept head), which makes me curious what's going on there. |
Nothing's going on, you alarmist. |
| People are envious that it feeds into a W school. The HVAC system needs to be corrected for sure. Parking is insufficient and the grounds need to be improved. Other issues I have heard about but don't know for sure. |
| Don't think anyone is envious of Frost, which is a real dump. I've heard many families are leaving the school. |
Indeed, just last June, about 375 students left the school. On the other hand, a roughly equal number of students are likely to enter the school next week. |
As a PP noted, projected enrollment in that school is dropping significantly, while near by JWMS, Cabin John MS, and Lakeland MS stay somewhat steady and/or goes up. |
| It is somewhat silly that a kid will go directly past Frost, directly past Hoover - to go to school at Cabin John. Only to come back to Wootton (which abuts Frost) for HS |
