OP here, following up.
I've tried taking Vitex this cycle, and wow! Day 9 of luteal phase, and still going strong! Maaaaaaybe a BFP is in my near future....? |
Or get monitored if you do clomid at a younger age |
|
OP, Id be wary of making too many conclusions about yourself from just 1-2 cycles of temp charting.
That said, seems there is some interesting research on Vitex. Doesn't seem it hurts and at least one small randomized control trial found some positive effect. Anyone else tried this herb extract? What do have your doctors said? http://www.aafp.org/afp/2005/0901/p821.html "In another small RCT26 involving 52 patients with luteal phase defects, women in the active treatment group were found to have reduced prolactin release, normalized luteal phases, improved luteal phase progesterone synthesis, and increased luteal phase estradiol. This study appears to support the use of chasteberry for luteal phase disorders, but the actual effect on fertility was not mentioned. A recent double-blind placebo-controlled pilot study27 of 30 women showed an increasing trend in midluteal phase progesterone level and an increased number of pregnancies in the 15 women who took a nutritional supplement containing chasteberry for five months." | Anyone know if it's safe for baby if I take B while nursing? |
|
Just following up as I was a previous poster (not OP) also worried about a short luteal phase given that I routinely spot about 3-4 days before my period.
Didn't matter, got pregnant on month 3 anyway. Didn't take vitex or B6 or anything beyond a basic multi vitamin. Just waited it out and got pregnant, despite my anxiety.

I never figured out if I had a short luteal phase or what, but after a year of trying for Baby #1, I conceived only after trying 2-3 days after when I thought I was ovulating (based on strips, temp, fluid, etc.)
For Baby #2, we did the same thing, and got pregnant within 2 months of TTC. |
Wait does nursing make you have a short luteal phase?? |
(+1) |
|
Short luteal phase here too.
actively TTC for 12 months. started taking Vitex and Vitamin B. then went my first time for acupuncture- told them I was TTC and short luteal phase, and they targeted certain pressure points. got pregnant that cycle |
It can, yes |

I charted for 2-3 months, found that my luteal phase was short (average 6 days) and freaked out that I was deficient in progesterone and wouldn’t be able to get pregnant. Then conceived my first month trying. Then I freaked out that I would get a miscarriage, but my doctor basically told me to stop trying to find a problem until there were signs of a problem, which was good advice. Carried baby to term with no issues.
All to say - agree with previous posters that you don’t know enough about your body from charting one cycle. |
| OP here- just got a BFP this week! First ever pregnancy for me. Got pregnant on 3rd cycle of trying. I don’t know if it helped, but I took Vitex, B-complex vitamins, and for the 3rd cycle started using Preseed. Woohoo! |
| I had a short lutealmohase, and both my RE and my acupuncturist suggested B6 supplementation. I went from 10 to 14 days in one cycle. I used B6 and a B-complex together with my prenatal. |
Congrats! |
| First time around vitamin B didn’t lengthen my luteal phase past 9 days. Vitamin d and progesterone is what did the trick. TTT #2, and no amount of vitamin D, progesterone, or two rounds of clomid did the trick. Still not pregnant, and that’s the only thing revealed wrong after all the testing of both DH and I. |
