Best Ethiopian food in the DMV?

Bete is very good. I also like Lessac, Abol and Lucy. Also Ethio Express is amazing. Like Chipotle but with Ethiopian food. I like that you can get it served over a salad instead of the injera which is good but carb heavy.

If you are in NoVa, Mesob in Herndon is really good! I normally only eat vegetarian when eating Ethiopian but the ribs are great

I have Celiac and can't have wheat, barley, or rye.

Would I be able to eat many things at an Ethiopian restaurant? What should I order/stay away from?

Thank you to anybody that can help. I've always wanted to try Ethiopian.

Lalibela at 14th and P NW. It's not very fancy, but really good.

Try the kitfo raw if you're feeling adventurous.

From this link it looks like you'd have to find authentic injera made with teff flour, not wheat flour.

The rest of the dishes - meat, veggie, etc. are probably gluten free.

This is my favorite place too!

Chercher on 9th St. had really good food when I went last week, but the service was slow. I'll be honest that I don't find a lot of variation in the menus or taste of the same dish at different restaurants, but chercher had a string bean dish I really liked even though I don't usually like string beans. I wish the shiro had been a bit spicier, though.

Plus a million times infinity. Don't know if they've opened yet, but it's supposed to be any day now.

Call ahead and ask for all teff injera. Tell them no wheat. Bete is pretty good. Also, I would get the veggie combo, which is usually all vegan and no wheat etc. I can tell when I have regular injera because I have massive massive diarrhea. But also the texture is different. It will break into pieces easily especially when it cools. Make sure to specify you want all teff injera as the plate and on the side. It will be like 4 dollars extra.

If you want the Chipotle of Ethiopian, go to EthioExpress in Silver Spring. It's fast casual, which works great for our toddlers (and they love the food too).

+1 I love that they have noodles in addition to injera, which is great for picky eaters. So we just get noodles and a handful of non-spicy sides for the little ones and the rest of us can go to town on spicy chicken or beef. They also have tofu, which is not traditional but is a nice touch.

YES THIS IS THE BEST.

Our friends are Ethiopian and LOVE this place (as well as some other hole in the wall places on skyline drive). But when it comes to sit down, this place is the best. We went to Ethiopic with them and were not impressed.

Also not impressed with Ethiopic. It was much cleaner and nicer looking than many, but I care more about the food. It was just OK.
