I use different bags when I'm traveling for work (solo) vs vacation with the family (including young kids).
Traveling for work - typically 2-3 days at a time, so I use one carry-on for my personal travel stuff and a laptop tote bag. The carry-on has my clothes, toiletries, etc. The laptop bag includes my computer and accessories, wristlet with my ID / cards / cash, phone and charger, Kleenex, chapstick, nail file, hand cream, reusable water bottle (carry it empty through security, then fill from a water fountain), mints or gum, light pashmina (I get cold on airplanes). Vacation with family - typically for a week or more, so we usually check a bag or two. Then I carry on a backpack and a small crossbody purse. The crossbody has my ID / cards / cash plus my phone. The backpack has the reusable water bottle, pashmina, snacks, book or magazines, headphones, and a small makeup bag with Kleenex, chapstick, hand cream, nail file, couple of bandaids, some Advil (adult and children's), and mints. |
Don't worry about keeping up. I have a GAP tote that I got twenty years ago on the clearance rack for $18. I have traveled the world and back with my tote and it is still holding up. I just returned from England last Saturday. Unfortunately, GAP no longer makes this tote. Just travel and have fun. No one cares about what type of bag that tourists carry. Also, with the annoyance of individuals who pick pocket in many places around the world I'm happy that I carry a bag that doesn't scream, "Please rob me!" I'm weathly, but I will never waste $975 on a bag. My clearance tote suits me just fine.
