Why is being born smart seen as morally superior to being born beautiful?

Just as beauty is a gift of nature, so it intelligence. So why do some women claim moral virtue if they've been particularly blessed in the brains department? And why do they seem to gleefully disparage beauty?

I don't know that I'd agree with that. I'm probably considered beautiful and intelligent. The natural intelligence has been used in concert with a lot of hard work and studying. It's been nurtured more. It feels like something I have more control over.

The beauty just requires sunscreen and waxing to keep up. I don't feel as invested in it.

The beauty will fade, but the intelligence will serve you forever.

Intelligence fades too.

Yes, but not usually by 30 when most models/strippers go into retirement.

No, she's a troll.

I dunno, it doesn't make any sense.

As someone who has been blessed with both, I really hate when I see people make fun of "dumb" people. Just the other day i saw someone making fun of people with an iq under 100. It's really heartless

Not directly, but it was implied. Here's a direct quote:

"Why do women who claim to be bright take pleasure in putting down other women just for their good looks?"

If smart women are putting down pretty women, the implication here is that the smart women are not also pretty, or else they would be putting themselves down.

OP here. This comment perfectly illustrates my point. Why the vicious undertone?

Why do women who claim to be bright take pleasure in putting down other women just for their good looks? Why do they feel superior about an IQ that was a genetic accident? Their intelligence was no more earned than the prom queen's large bust.

OP, you must be either a troll or an idiot. Perhaps both.

After centuries of women being valued primarily based on the way they look, you sit here and wonder how there could be a backlash by some women to value something else or place a higher premium on intelligence? Are you kidding me?

I believe the Washington Post did an article on this very thing a few years ago- the incredible double standard where it's cruel to make fun of someone for an ugly face or massive nose, but perfectly fine to make fun of someone for being "dumb".

Apparently (quelle surprise) there are many DCUM posters too "dumb" to be able to conceptualize the unfairness of this.

The argument that intelligence holds up through life doesn't hold water. Cognition slows as we age.

So does beauty.

Well you're not even intelligent enough to properly format, so you better hope intelligence doesn't fade anymore! You already have a limited amount!

Because they are jealous. There is nothing in the world as fun as being a beautiful woman. Nothing.

I am with you, OP. Women are almost made to downplay or feel ashamed of their beauty. Personally I appreciate physical beauty and consider it a gift to humanity - who doesn't like a gorgeous face!?

I don't know about morally superior, but humanity benefits more from smart than beautiful.

This is total BS. Women use their beauty if they have it to get ahead/get what they want.

Gift to humanity? It won't cure cancer.

What you say is BS. I am beautiful and it has never been something I've "used" to get ahead.
