This happened to friends of my parents. They had two daughters and one Christmas the older one got a kissy doll. The younger one, age 5, was a bit jealous so her father told her that she was his "kissy doll" and every night he would say, "where's my kissy doll" and she would run over and he would put her arms together and she would pucker up and kiss him. At some point she got a little bored with this and he told her that he would have to repair his kissy doll. He pretended he was unscrewing her back and fixing her arms and she loved this game.
One evening they had dinner guests, my parents and the Episcopalian minister. Apparently, he forgot this ritual and she came running into living room yelling, "Daddy, screw me, screw me. You forgot to screw me"! My mother said his face turned many shades of red as he tried to explain this was a game. His wife saved the day and said, "Later, dear. Daddy's busy right now.". The ritual ended that night. |
This is so sweet that I hesitate to be the Debbie Downer, but I've read that peanut butter is a choking hazard for young kids when it's eaten straight like that (apparently the Heimlech maneuver won't work). |

We have a silly Mom games ritual at bed time. It's the time I get to spend with them after work. 15 years going. We remember every silly game. Hard to explain.
Their favorite is still an adaptation from Ring the Dinger from Sesame Street. One ding, sweet hug. Two dings, two hard hugs, three dings, three zerbets on the belly, four dings, massive stuffed animal attack, five dings, you get the gist... |
| My 2.5 year old likes to "cheers" everything so we do that a lot...we cheers our cups, of course, but also toys, books, noses (nuzzling), feet, crayons, etc. |
| DD is 2.5 and we say goodnight to all of the people she knows by pointing at pictures of them in her room, or things she associates with them, or stuffed animals given to her by them. When someone new becomes important to her she demands that we get a "goodnight version" of them. |
| Just about every night this summer, my 6-year-old and I have snuggled up in my bed to watch her new favorite TV show... Press Your Luck. We have a new baby and a 3-year-old, so it's become our special time while DH is putting the toddler to bed and I'm nursing the baby. |
