Congressman Raskin proposes panel to remove Trump

For example, the House passed over 50 measures to repeal the ACA over the past 6 years. Were you complaining about that waste of time too?

Yes, I thought that was futile as well ...... and fyi, I am a liberal who finds these meaningless actions to be a waste of time. If Raskin and his ilk are trying to rally the base, they are already opposed to Trump and don't need rallying. If the goal is to remove Trump then it is a waste of time because it will not happen through invoking the 25th amendment. It would not have surprised me if someone like Maxine Waters came up with a nutty idea like this one but to think that it is gaining currency among the more sane Democrats just blows my mind.

Oh, I don't know. Jamie Raskin won his House seat in November 2016 with 59% of the vote. What percent of the vote did Donald Trump get?

Your representative of why America is flowing down shit river. You're too dumb to vote.

A con artist like Raskin has ability to gaining CONfidence of his marks. All con artists are sociopaths. That makes Raskin dangerous to America.

Number of votes he was able to dupe reveals just how good a con artist he is.

Ah. So 3 million more people voted for Clinton than Trump, but that just proves that Clinton is a better con artist than Trump?

I disagree with this, actually. People need encouragement and signs of action, however futile.

Subtract voter fraud from the '16 election, and President trump won the popular vote.

Only after he attended every opening of every envelope throughout his gerrymandered district for well over a decade but, go on...I'm going to enjoy watching him "lead the charge!"

We can go on about Hillary winning the popular vote and how 100K votes in certain states made the difference in the electoral college but the reality is that Trump is the president. The margin of victory is not the important thing .... what matters is who wins an election,

Talk of impeachment and invoking the 25th Amendment only harms the credibility of future impeachment managers in 2019 if/when Trump actually does something that is impeachable. Mean tweets and conspiracy theories about Russia are not going to get the job done. Trump won the election. Get over it and try to elect moderate/sensible Democrats in 2017 and 2018. Has anyone won a fight with Trump when stooping to his level? Ask President Rubio. Or Kathy Griffin. Even Elizabeth Warren goes too far.

Raskin is another crazy lib from Bethesda. What an ass. Hey Jamie, you'll never be president.

This!

What some don't realize is that Trump is held to a different standard than others running for office. Trump can say things that would kill another's political future but he is unaffected. We saw this repeatedly during the 2016 campaign. Getting into the gutter with Trump will only destroy his opponent. But keep trying and see how that works out.

Raskin and other dumbasses supporting this measure don't seem to realize that with the House and Senate controlled by Republicans something like this will never pass. And the idea that Pence will take the lead on this is asinine.

Is it any wonder that Democrats are floundering in terms of how to deal with Trump and the Republican agenda? I guess they realize that impeachment will not fly so they are now relying on this idiotic measure.

Pointing to the outcry over President Donald Trump's latest controversial tweets, freshman Rep. Jamie Raskin is urging his colleagues to get behind a bill that could potentially oust the President if he was mentally or physically unfit.

The Maryland Democrat wants to create an 11-member commission made up of mostly physicians and psychiatrists -- more formally called the "Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity." The panel would carry out a medical examination and determine whether the President was physically or mentally able to do the job.

Two of the commission's members would also be former high ranking officials, such as presidents, vice presidents, attorneys general or secretaries of state.

It's a provocative and long-shot effort, but Raskin is citing as his legal backup the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, which was adopted in 1967 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy to establish procedure in the case a president is incapacitated. About two dozen Democrats have signed on to the effort as of Thursday.
Raskin is zeroing in on one section of that constitutional amendment, which allows the vice president to assume powers if either the majority of the Cabinet or "such other body as Congress" finds that the President is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of office." (The vice president would also have to agree to the assessment of the President's abilities.) Raskin is proposing his commission to serve as that "body."

The President could appeal the decision, and a whopping two-thirds of both the House and the Senate would then need to agree with the commission's assessment in order to keep the President out of office. If two-thirds fail to agree, then the President would be allowed to resume the powers and duties of the office.

He's done plenty that's impeachable -- or rather, that would be impeachable, if there were enough people in the House willing to impeach him for it.
