HS son was not invited to group chat because he uses Android phone

It was a polite way to say that he is not welcome. Many reasons for that. Can be your son, can be them. Definitely, absolutely, not the text color.

I'm almost 50 and completely agree it's more difficult to text with my two friends who don't have iPhones and yes, the messages don't show up on my other devices the way IMessages do. We use FB Messenger or I don't message them as often. Not a kid thing IMO.

It may be a data plan issue. Texts between iphones using imessage are free, but texts to android phones may not be if you don't have a texting plan that covers them.

He is running a scam on you. He wants an iPhone.

Oh God. It's awful but as millennial, we do judge people off their phones. One time I was hiking, and my phone died. The friend I was with had an android and we took a picture on her phone. When I showed it to other friends, they wondered what the hell had happened to my phone to make it turn out so bad and grainy looking. It's kind of a joke among people my age group how bad Androids are.

However, not being invited to a group chat... thats a bit much. I would say they might be superficial in the extreme (and that means a lot from me because I already know my group is superficial )

You think it's too much to not be invited to a group chat because one has an Android phone, but admit to judging people by phones. You are the same age group mentally, if not physically, as this poster's child.

It isn't about the color of the text, it is that the platforms aren't compatible.

You said it yourself: you use something else if you want to talk. Unless it's a ploy to get an iPhone, his "friends" are excluding him.

It's probably a data plan issue, iMessages are free

My son's friends don't do this. Maybe we just don't travel in the same circles, but my son's friends just don't have access to whatever tech they want.

I think your son needs new friends. I'm sorry he will be going through a rough time.

Kid sounds like a loser. The android phone is proof

My husband's family doesn't include me on group texts because I have Android and they all use iPhones.

I have an iPhone and google nexus. The iPhone is a work phone that was forced on me. I'm an engineer and most engineers at my work have an android.

The android with google fi network is infinitely better than the iPhone, including the camera. I judge people who "think" iPhones are the best phone.
