Website Feedback
You got this just after clicking the "reply" button? |
It popped up / hijacked browser window wipe just reading. I then opened a new browser window (without clearing out the old one first though - just a new tab, was planning to C&P the address) and navigated to website feedback. Got about 5 works into typing a reply and the browser window got hijacked. |
| *while, not wipe. Words, of works. Sorry - on phone. |
In the first instance, while you were reading, I want to confirm that this is the sequence of events: 1) You clicked on a thread title to read a thread; 2) the page loaded and ads loaded; 3) you began reading; 4) after you had read a bit, a pop-up occurred. The key here is that there was delay between clicking to enter the thread and when the pop-up occurred. In the second instance: 1) you clicked the "reply" button; 2) after typing a few words, a pop-up occurred. The key this time is that you clicked the "reply" button. We have two ways to reply: 1) the "quick reply" which is the text box at the end of the page of messages and; 2) regular "reply" which opens a new page with a text box above the messages. I need to confirm which way you were replying. |
You've got it right. A bit of delay and then the takeover - it's not a pop up as much as the ad taking over the browser tab you are on. With the reply I'm about 95% certain it was using the quick reply box. |
If you were using the quick reply box, then all of this points directly to one source. I made an adjustment which may eliminate the problem. If not, I will take more drastic action. So, please let me know if this occurs again. |
| 11:03 here - yes, it was the quick reply (box at the bottom). Hopefully you got it! Thanks! |

Just FYI, tonight I was able to catch a redirect to brickages.com and trace it back to the source. I have stopped ads from that network and notified them about the ad. There has been a rash of malicious ads impacting a number of different advertising networks. There is a constant arms race of sorts as purveyors of malicious ads develop new ways of sneaking them into ad networks and ad networks develop new ways of catching them. At the moment, it seems the bad guys have a bit of an upper hand. In the last two weeks, I have caught malicious ads from four different networks.

thanks for all the hard work Jeff. |
| I just got hit with the brick ages redirect. I was just reading the forum and not replying to a thread. I'm on an iPhone. |
Thanks for reporting. Thanks to your report, I have already caught it and disabled the originating ad network. This is the exact same thing I caught over the weekend, just coming through a different ad network. |
| Any luck on getting rid of the website I keep getting hit with the brickages redirect. |
I have eliminated the brickages redirect from two different ad networks. I didn't know that it was still occurring. If you are still getting it, I'll go back to trying to reproduce it. |

This popped up when reading a post on my iPad. Tells. E my iPad has been selected to win $1000.00. Only option given is to select OK. Cannot return to my timeline . Must reboot and return to timeline e immediately to avoid pop up recurring to prevent another reboot.
