Because names ending with the "ee" sound tend to sound more cutesy and less formal.

That is my sister's name - she is 35 now - but her official name is Emily Ann.

My DD is Emma and we call her Emmy as a nickname. I love it.

I don't understand. Why not just call her Emma?

Emmy sounds like a dog's name to me.

I love it. It's on my top 5 list. The woman who we bought our house from was named Emmy and I have been in love with the name since we bought out house last year. I think our neighbors may think we are crazy if we name our baby Emmy, though - considering we never met the woman, she had dementia and our she used to share our house with raccoons. I'ts still on my list, though.

OP - I love it!

I think it's cute, but not too cutesy or odd that 20 years from now you will be questioning what you are thinking.

Go for it.

Nickname, sure. Formal name, no way.

I think it's a really great name, especially if you love it.

And even though some people have given you negative feedback about the name, just think of it this way: you are picking a name that is not the next super popular name, so you child most likely won't have to go by "First name, last initial" like they would if you chose Emma or Emily

I think it is nice. As someone else said - not to formal, not too cutesy and not so weird that you will regret it later.

Meanwhile, you should not take any of these opinions (mine included) too seriously. If you like it, go for it.

Honestly, names are a matter of taste and some of the names people suggest here seem ridiculous to me, but I don't have to live with them, and they wouldn't have to live with my choices.

I'm an Emily and as a kid everyone called me Emmy. I absolutely hated it!

Just go with Sally or Cindy since that is the vibe you are going for -- retro ugly.

Just a little rude. There's nothing wrong with Sally or Cindy either.

I remembered going to school with an Emmy so tried to look her up on Facebook. Looks like there are 24 Emily Cleggs who have Emmy as their nickname. I will never find the Emmy I knew.

My best friend since middle school has always gone by "Emi." Her full name is Emilia. I love the name, but she is a great friend so that probably has something to do with it!

FWIW, I like the name.
