Sleep training a 9MO

He's playing with his brother (2YO) and then nurses one last time and out by 8 - not sure how we can modify that especially when the other parent gets home at 6:30 so one of us is dealing with both kids for dinner and the witching hour alone. And both of my kids are up early, regardless of what time they go to bed.

He naps ok during the day. Could always be better.

Can he go to bed right after his bath? It's sad to cut the play time but it sounds like he really needs the sleep. Especially if you're experiencing a witching hour. Just cut out that hour by putting him to bed!

+1. Put him to bed after the bath. If he sleeps more at night, he might also nap better during the day. Your 2-year-old also probably needs to go to bed around 7 or 7:30.

He doesn't need a bath every night. Cut out some things and put him down at 7 for a few nights. I guarantee you will see a difference.

I hated this book. Much preferred Ferber.

Haha, NP and yeah, I bought the Weissbluth based on all the recs here. It's just sitting on my shelf. I think I read snippets totaling maybe 2 pages out of the hundreds of pages? Soooo long and boring.

+1. Loved Ferber. With W, I was like "is this English?"

OP again here - for what it's worth, we don't do baths every night, usually every other, but our times seem to stay the same . I'll try to start putting them both down by 7:30 and see if that helps. It's hard now, too, with it being so nice out that DS1 wants to play outside when we get home so that also pushes our schedule back if we do. We did have a pretty calm night in terms of a quiet dinner and bath time (no screaming involved...).

Last night was better - he was down around 7:45pm and woke at 11:15. Ate about 4-5oz bottle and woke again at some point during the night (I didn't even look) but I didn't get up and he seemed to settle very quickly on his own. Woke at 4am on the dot so I took him downstairs to the couch and he was pretty much awake at that point, laid on me, slept a little bit, but fussed until 5am on the dot when he was up for the day. Was VERY ready for his first nap by the time I dropped him at the nanny's at 7:30am.

Just a warning that you're trainings him to be up
For the day at 4 am by picking him up and taking him to the couch every morning. He will get used to thinking it's mom snuggle time. You will have to break that at some point and let him fuss, learn to fall back asleep or sleep though the 4 am wake up.

I liked 12 hours by 12 weeks or something like that. It works even if your kid is over 12 weeks.
