With a DJ? I can imagine the decibel level. I would call the police. No, I would not knock on the door. There is something else to this story, I don't believe that bad white cop arrested good black women who ran to turn the music down right away. I think they began argue with police, read the part where she describes her friends in their best outfits who hold very high company's positions gathering on the driveway. Something happened and was left omitted from the story. |

Memorial Day weekend the neighbors one block over had a live band in their garage. Must have been 50 cars parked up and down the street. I could hear the band clear as day. The music started at 9 pm. At midnight, a cop from the same block told them to shut it down. They did.
The party throwers were white, the cop black. Whole scenario like the article except it was a white people party and a black cop. Well that and respect. I call bs on this story. |
And its not MEANT to be balanced reporting...GEEZ |
Good, we all agree. Let's move on. |
Why does the fact that the white party-goers were treated differently make you not believe this story? That's the whole point that she was treated differently because she was black. |

If you give me a gift basket that includes ear plugs I am totally calling the police on you when quiet hours start. It means you know you are going to be loud which is obnoxious.
BTW, her story doesn't match her story in the WaPo article. It is hard to keep lies straight when lying. |
The question is -- if a white person refused to comply with a police request to turn down the music for 20 mins, would they be arrested? My best guess, though I don't know, is yes. |
| Yeah I could hear the music playing from over two blocks away, it was THAT loud. No sympathy for her here. |

PP here
The Root is a joke, they have as much credibility as Faux News. |
+1. If you tell me in advance "Hey I plan to be a big ol' d-bag Sunday night" you've already primed me to be pissed about it and I'll react that much quicker when you are, in fact, a d-bag. |
|
What was the point of giving out ear plugs? That alone tells me she damn well knew what she was doing and basically told her neighbors that she would be doing whatever the hell she wanted.
And of course she wants to play the victim here... |
I hope the neighbors ( who could have just walked up to her door but instead) got her arrested get their fair share of karma! Hatred begets hate. |

I think one point to consider is that black people are expected to be perfect. I've heard people say that *maybe* she scoffed, or that she was slow to comply. But, it's not like all white people act the same, or all black people act the same. Some white and black people would be exceptionally contrite and rush to comply. But, people don't allow for any deviation for blacks. So, if a white person scoffed and was slow to comply, I'm sure it still wouldn't have resulted in an arrest. That's wherein the problem lies.
If a black person doesn't execute a traffic stop perfectly (without knowing what perfectly means) they risk being shot. Whites have much greater leniency. They may piss off a cop, but the ramifications are that they get a ticket, instead of a warning. I wish people would try to understand this more. |
This. She may have been an asshole and a bad neighbor, but those things don't justify being arrested. There are lots of assholes and bad neighbors in that very neighborhood who are white, and they don't get arrested. |
|
Most people don't get arrested for noise complaints because it doesn't take them twenty minutes to turn down the music.
Cops tend to not like being ignored, she got what she deserved. |
