Woke teen up with this morning with a water gun - AMA

So, what do you suggest as a good solution?

I bet you never have to do it again! Otherwise, he better trade jammies for swim trunks tonight.

Are you me?

I'm posting again just in case your son has ADHD or a sleeping disorder or something like that. My son has ADHD and it perturbs his sleep, which means he has a hard time getting up in the morning. We finally got him a Phillips sun clock at the beginning of the school year, and it was like magic! Instead of me yelling in his ear and dragging him out of bed (literally, he would wake up when his body hit the hardwood floor), his body adjusts to the light which starts to shine 20-30 minutes before the alarm, and he's already nearly awake by the time it rings, so he gets up instantly.

As a surly teen, I was awoken by the Motowns Greatest Hits at full blast and a giggling parent. As an parent, I sing loudly and dance at my kids. Personally, I use the sun clock

I can't wait to use the water gun

I'm a fan of the loud music approach. Water in the house would be too messy for me. I pulled the covers off of DS once to be funny, and I will never, EVER do that again!

What did he needs to get up for? In our house, missing whatever it is would likely have been the extent of the consequences. Not sure I understand the point of waking him up the way you did.

What's he doing when he stays up? My kid gets bored quickly after the screens shut off at 10:00.

I'm not opposed to the water gun approach, but I think it's time to reassess what's going on at bedtime. What is he doing instead of sleeping?

Yes you are a bad mom for not getting DC to sleep on time.

Uh, I'm guessing school.

I've used this pretty successfully for my 12 year old!

A wise man once said: pulling covers off of anybody without knowing what they're wearing is asking to be em-bare assed.

Pretty sure most schools are out for the summer, but if it was school then fine - if he's a teenager he's well old enough to take the detention or other consequences for an unexpired absence.

I would pack a water gun and beat you at your own game the next morning.

I suspect you would throw a fit and cry.
