My mom asked (told) me that I should have my DD call her

I am becoming more and more convinced that my main job as a parent is to make sure my kids are willing and able to do the boring/uncomfortable/annoying things we all have to do to make communities and families work.

You call your elderly grandma, and mom is right there to take the phone if it goes on too long. You go to the boring graduation for your brother. You write the Thank You notes. You go to the party you said "yes" too, even if something better comes along.

I Skype once a week with my niece who lives overseas. It gives her a week to collect things to show me and to have activities to talk about.
