Pale Oak vs. Edgecombe Gray from Benjamin Moore

Revere Pewter has been my best experience with gray thus far. That's one of the greige paints. I have it in an open room with 1950's oak floor, dark wood cabinets and black granite counters. There's a lot going on, but it works. I think I have edgecomb gray in one of my kid's rooms, but it's a pretty dark room-- so there isn't much opportunity for it to change color. We paired it with a very dark gray rug from crate and barrel. I had a really bad experience with Silver Gray in my basement, it looks baby blue at certain times of the day-- people think it is blue paint.

Try Maria Killiam's blog op. I also used her paid service for a color consult for my exterior paint and was really happy with her suggestions.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Edgecomb grey or Revere Pewter. I love both of these. Edgecomb grey is a bit lighter.

I originally was going to go with Edgecombe Gray but it turns a purpley brown in certain lights. Yesterday the sample board I have was showing a cold blue during the day with no lights on.

Pale Oak is lighter and seems very pretty and fresh. It does seem to go a little lavender at times. If you have used it, have you noticed any undertones?

My room has a northern exposure and it's been very hard to find a color that will work!

Unfortunately, our granite is gray and and any cream based color clashes with it.

Thanks in advance.

I painted and placed drywall pieces of BM Revere Pewter, Edgecomb Gray and Pale Oak around my house for weeks before choosing. I like BM Pale Oak too. In the end, I choose Revere Pewter for my northern exposure rooms and it worked out great without any green undertone: the depth was needed. I painted a huge foyer, LR and halls Edgecomb Gray and get nothing but compliments-these are west, east/west exposures. No lavender undertones, just a nice amicable griege.

We were looking at these also. Pale Oak is definitely lighter and cooler. Edgecomb gray, while still light, is darker than pale oak and warmer (beigier). Revere Pewter is a nice color, but the darkest of the three and I think has a little more green it. So a lot depends on where it's going and what it's going with. All three are great colors.
