Thrifty or stealing?

Anonymous
OP here. Our family (who share their accounts with us) benefit/benefited in other ways financially from us (not going into details here).

Thanks for sharing. Looks like stealing/not stealing is 50/50%. I don't think it's stealing (obviously).

We just share an Amazon account (uid/pw) - Different delivery addresses and credit cards are in the account and Amazon doesn't seem to mind. When they do and tell us, we will respond accordingly.

Now let me ask you this.. If you can buy Tylenol for $1 in Canada but have to pay $5 in the US, aren't the companies stealing from you? Is that OK? I KNOW it's the law. Guess who wrote that law?

I don't think it's stealing but I do think you're a cheap free loader.

Jealous?

My teenage nieces do this sort of thing with my DH's netflix, spotify and HBO accounts. His brother is too cheap to pay for these things. I don't like it. I don't think my nieces are moochers, but I definitely think my BIL is and I also think my DH is a pushover for letting it happen.

OP, now you are just justifying the fact that you are stealing.

This. It's not thrifty, it's cheap. There's a difference. And it is stealing. I felt guilty about sharing my New York Times login info with my HUSBAND after I subscribed, and I'm not at all a ninny rule follower type.

Agree

Stealing. The OP line of thinking reminds me of the crazy responses from the people who are known panhandlers frequent the grocery store parking lots around here.

It doesn't raise my ire as much as people who stream bootleg content from non-US piracy site, but it's theft that drives up prices for the rest of us. And the content companies could very well change their minds and crack down on this in the future. It's not like they can't track the streaming info.

It's not stealing. It's brilliant!

Cable companies are not hurting for money. They want you to believe that this is what drives up prices, when really they drive up prices to make more money. It's like they are all in a race to see just HOW freaking desperate most of us are to give them more and more money every month.

So go for it OP. I say stick to them anyway you can. We pay for cable but I'd love to give them the middle finger and stop.

Translation: It's not stealing because the entity from which I am stealing has a lot of money.

Logic isn't your first language, is it?

+1. Cable and HBO expressly prohibit sharing accounts. Not sure about the others.

I disagree with PP that Amazon is openly fine with sharing Prime accounts.

+2, not to mention that OP completely misrepresents the terms of service for Cable and HBO in the OP by stating there is nothing that expressly prohibits this.

You seem sketchy OP. Are you bragging?
