I LOVE it when northerners try to come in all high and mighty and act like the north has this sparkling history or racial tolerance and non-segregation. Take five minutes, do a google search, and read one of the countless articles or papers about racism in the north while you're hanging out in your glass house. Racism and segregation are wrong, but it's not as north/south of an issue as you seem to think it is. Try searching for "northern schools more segregated than southern schools" so you can get some better facts on the issue -- shit, even John Oliver talked about this last year.

Same with me. I graduated from HS 30 years ago (in the South) and never heard racial slurs shouted.
