Why do women want their acrylic nails look like huge freaky talons?

But not dirty, like fake nails.

I don't get it either. It is ugly.

Do you really need it explained that different people find different things aesthetically pleasing? And that what you find aesthetically pleasing is heavily influenced by a variety of cultural factors?

You're not very bright, OP. Elaborate nails aren't my cultural jam. Neither are lotus points, stretched earlobes, or Vineyard Vines. But I'm not dumb enough to think that my cultural niche is universal

Are you really so stupid that you don't get that OP is just kvetching about something she/he finds incredibly ugly. I get that you are trying to be all flowery and inclusive, but you just sound pompous.

cultural niche....ha ha ha ha.

I agree, OP, that those nails are incredibly ugly.

Or maybe the PP isn't trying to be pompous or inclusive, she's just being realistic? You sound oddly defensive- what about PP saying cultural niche sets you off into manic typed laughter? I don't like the look of the aforementioned Vineyard Vines gear or the talon-like nails, but I don't feel the need to have people explain the appeal to me, either. It's simple- different people like different things, and it's often clustered by subculture.

She is overstating the obvious to make herself feel important and inclusive.

My point is simply that OP is saying, "hey, I think those are ugly". Big whoop. You can agree or not but PPs lecture is just laughable.

OP didn't just comment that they're ugly, she asked for an explanation and if the wearers actually thought they were pretty.

It's not surprising that a few PPs found it odd bordering on dumb that OP needs an explanation and to be told that yes, the people wearing a certain fashion item wear it because they like it.

NP. That's actually not what OP said - the inclusion of them being "ghetto" is what prompted the culture response.

Saying you think something is ugly is different than saying you think it is ghetto (and ugly).

It's gross in my opinion.

This x 1000. Maybe throw in a sensible haircut & some LuluRoe, too.

So I don't get the appeal myself, but there are many things I don't like but other people do like.

One thing that confuses me about these nails is that the women I see with them are also the women I know who are always complaining about how tight money is (and these are women with legit money problems). These same women also tend to get highlights and other beauty treatments that I'm pretty sure are fairly costly. I think I spend a decent amount on facials/manicures/etc, but nothing I do comes close to the expense of maintaining nails like these etc.

I know that my experience are just anecdote, but I find it so strange. I obviously also have luxuries I spend on, so maybe I'm just not seeing the big picture. But I find it so odd to hear women complaining that they are struggling to pay rent and then talking about their nail and hair appointments.

We will all be so much better off when the government issues us our polyester burkas.

I will never forget my son's 3rd grade teacher telling every parent at parent/teacher night we needed to make sure kids bathed before coming to school and to make sure they were taught how to clean after going to the bathroom. I mean this woman was rude. She looked at everyone like we were failing parenting our kids.

She complained of smelling fecal matter daily. It was under her dirty fake claws. Nasty woman didn't wash her hands after you know what. Apparently her teacher friends broke the news to her. And everyone else. Fake hair, fake nails, walking bacterial infection. Her feet were crusty too.

I think she ended up quitting.

Now when I see long nails I automatically think it's gross and avoid being near them or anything they touch. Another reason I never eat out.

Very long nails deserve a bad rap, because contrary to other beauty trends, it's extremely unhygienic.

1+.

A google search for acrylic nails fungus should illustrate this quickly:

Shiver.

After seeing this, You'll stay FAR away
from ANYONE with these fake claws.

Is trashy more fair then?

You have to know that ghetto infers race, right? Right? Or are you being purposely obtuse?
