Childrens, Kennedy Krieger or CHOP?

I never been to Children's because getting through their scheduling process is a nightmare. This particular aspects add another layer of unnecessary stress. Something to consider when making a decision.

The PPs story is despicable, truly. I hope you reported it the ombudsman's office.

I agree that Children's front line can be a nightmare to break through, but in many cases, they really do provide excellent care once you are in. We have been seen in many departments, and with very few exceptions, it has been a good experience. My advice is to make a follow appointment while you are still in the clinic where you are being seen and get direct contact information for the doctor/nurse practitioner you are working with (email (use their secure system), voice mail, administrative assistant, main clinic number, etc.).

We do not have experience with neurology, but if anyone reading this needs to deal with other departments at Childrens, yes, the front line is a challenge, but there is good care there in many departments.

Just to counterbalance the long story that a PP told about KKI vs CNMC. It all depends. We see a neurologist/neurogeneticist at CNMC. WE also saw Hoon for an appt once. He was fine but not a miracle worker. After the appt we got a bill for a $500 facility fee that we had never seen at CNMC. Once you know your way around Children's you can move some of your appts to Rockville, which is much less crazy but has the same docs. You are also more likely to see just one doc rather than a team where you have to recount your history multiple times.

Oh so you mean the doctors at Childrens also have Rockville offices?

My only experience at CHOP was via a rotation as a resident. I thought all of the specialists who came down to the ER (mostly neurologists) were pretty great with patients.

Thanks!

Have only heard of CHOP with regard to cardiac surgery.
Childrens has some good people, but I agree that KKI is a better overall experience.

Chop has great genetisists and a neuromuscular clinic - but have never been to other hospitals to compare.

CNMC has a number of satellite centers. Many docs have hours in multiple centers. In Rockville I have never had residents, there is no security stupidity and parking is easy and free. I see the same people I would see downtown. My kid sees a number of specialists and there's only one person I have to go into the city to see.

I guess it all depends because I went to the Rockville office and saw 2 different neurologists as well as had an MRI and an EEG done on our child at that location. The experience was awful and incredibly expensive with multiple facility fees, etc. Two years later and thousands of dollars later, we have no concrete diagnosis or plan or follow-up. We abhor CNMC. The neurologists barely did any exam (maybe that's why they felt they did not need to wash their hands before examining my child), did not follow-up as promised, etc. My child was subsequently diagnosed with ASD and may have a seizure disorder, but the poor quality EEG did not capture it. The MRI was abnormal but never fully explained. I would say skip CNMC at any location and go to KKI or CHOP. We plan to go to KKI next.

Thanks. Issues related to dyspraxia, low muscle tone, motor delays, processing issues.

You can go anywhere for these. Go where you have insurance coverage and the earliest appointment.
