Wow. I would worry about his mental health. You don't go from being a nice kid to a criminal. OP, are you sure this is true?

I don't understand, are family members letting him steal and not reporting the fraudulent charges, i.e just paying the bill? As soon as you report fraud to the credit card company, then the credit card company has the right to pursue criminal charges. It is not ok for a kid (adult) to steal and if family members let him , it will only escalate and frankly they are complicit in his crimes.

Butt out. A felony will ruin this kid's life forever. It happened to my brother in c college and his life never recovered from it.

Wondering how things turned out for this young adult. Friends child in similar situation and it is a struggle to know how to advise.
