Why are defendants on Judge Judy so fat?

Not to mention that for the working poor, having time to exercise is often an unreasonable luxury.

Poor people are fat.

All of the court shows are actors. One of my good friends was on an episode.

This is kinda true.

I live in CA & recently traveled to FLA.

There were much more obese people there than I have ever seen here in SoCal.

The reasons are plentiful:

- there is added sugar in so many foods. Much of the American diet is processed foods.
- not trying to generalize, but for men in some cultures, being "thick" is considered attractive. So some women have no need to stay thin.
- advertising works and it's everywhere.
- crappy fast food is everywhere especially near highways (Cracker Barrel, McDonald's)
- car culture

I could go on but it's sad. We have so much abundance here, but so many poorly informed people.

I don't think too many of these people have jobs. Many of them are on welfare.

Too many Americans are fat and lazy. We are getting fatter every year. Too many public schools suck and kids skate by. Don't study, watch tv and get fat. Then, they blame everyone else for their woes. We have to take responsibility for ourselves. We all need to stop being victims.

Step away from the tv and start walking. Anyone can afford to walk. Stop making excuses.

I think your perspective has been skewed. Just because people look like you and those around you doesn't mean they aren't fat. If you think that the people on Judge Judy are a healthy weight, you should probably eat less.

Omg. Who even *watches* that crap?!

The people on "Judge Judy" are a very small portion of the poor, working or otherwise, in the country.

And if you live in a place where everyone's shooting everyone else right out in the street?

Then you have to do jumping jacks inside or sit ups or push ups. Give me a break. Always looking for a way out. Not all of us who ended up well off started out that way. we were dirt poor but our mom made us study instead of watching tv. TVs are killers.

More recent studies show that one reason is it's been normalized in many places so fat and obese people do not look out of place or feel out of place. The look "normal" because everyone else around them looks like they do.

Well, you're clearly better than the rest of the mere mortals on the planet. Congratulations; you win.
