Curious how the curriculum is different? Shouldn't they be the same?

Nope.

How are they learning different things? They are all teaching the CCSS. Maybe it just comes down to what teachers they have.
Either way, which one do you prefer?

CC is a set of standards, not a curriculum. The curriculum is the way you get the kids to learn/meet the CC standards. DC PKs have many different methods: some are Montessori, some are Creative Curriculum, some are Tools of the Mind, some are Reggio-inspired or Reggio (Murch and Mann), and so on. I don't know which these two schools use (we chose private Montessori through PreK), but they would likely address this at Open House.

Lafayette is using Creative Curriculum in PreK (this year, at least) FWIW. But OP is asking about K and beyond. We looked at both schools and the class sizes at Lafayette are better, and least right now. There are some pretty crowded grades at Janney, and w/o space to add an extra class, there was some overcrowding.

It's no accident that Janney is first in J-K-L-M!

If you plan to drive to school, pick-up is a lot easier at Lafayette. Really though they are the top elementary schools in the city so either one will be good.

Please stop trolling. Don't you have anything better to do?

Pick the house you like most. Schools are pretty similar.

Your biggest challenge will be finding a house. Especially in AU park there is very little inventory.

Both schools are great.

If I thought this way, my child wouldn't be at Lafayette right now!

Lafayette is great and I hear wonderful things about Jamey from friends whose kids go there. You can't go wrong but houses in both neighborhoods are tough to find. Pick based on the house.

Wow, I'm relieved, I initially thought this was one of those What should we name the baby, Lafayette or Janney? type of posts.

Both are great schools. That said, Janney just seems to have hit the sweet spot for having great leadership, a caring and motivated faculty and fantastic kids. You won't find more committed, engaged parents anywhere than Jaguar moms and dads! We almost didn't buy in the Janney district. I wanted a neighborhood with more 'buzz', but DH -- with his very analytical, logical HLS mind -- ran the stats, did the research and persuaded this 'court' that we should move here. And our kids are doing wonderfully!

Either classically trained troll or clueless striver who has never set foot in any other ES in the area. Good for a laugh either way!
