If it's so easy (or less of an accomplishment) to get into Sidwell as a sibling, as you seem to be implying, why didn't these kids get into Sidwell sooner in PK or K when said sibling advantage was equally applicable? |
| Maybe they were not good enough. I know of siblings who have tried 3 times or more (not PDS) before finally being admitted through sheer family pressure. Some of these siblings will not be able to cut it academically but their families are desperate to have them in sidwell. |
| I didn't realize that "sheer family pressure" was all it took to get into Sidwell. |
| IF primary day does not reject anyone, how do they filter for people who would get into SFS? |
No wonder my kid didn't get in! |
| Beauvoir's loss is PDS gain? |
huh |
That isn't the way Sidwell admissions works. About half of each admissions round is set aside for qualified "priority" students which includes Quakers, Siblings and children of alumni and faculty/staff. There are still more priority applicants than there are slots, but their odds are better than unaffiliated applicants. |
| This post was obviously started by the marketing person at PDS. Trying to make up for all the bad publicity PDS has now. That school has serious problems now. |
Hun??? Except for the fact that the post is correct about the number of PDS kids that got into SFS. Also correct on the fact that several were siblings of other ex-PDS kids that got into SFS in years past. PDS sends a good number of kids to SFS every year. Is that so hard to wrap your head around? I don't know if everyone gets in to PDS or not but if it's true it just suggests that exclusivity isn't necessarily correlated with quality. Signed, a PDS parent. |
| I am a long-time private school parent and know for a fact that PDS does NOT send a good number of kids to SFS every year. Holton/Landon are where many of the kids go. |
Ugh. Is this true that it mostly feeds into Landon and Holton? |
You realize that they're not mutually exclusive? It may be true that Holton and Landon together end up with the most PDS students in third grade but my understanding is that over the years plenty of PDS kids have ended up at Sidwell too. And apparently several ended up getting into Georgetown Day this year as well. |
7:03 here. Believe who you want to believe but I would trust a long time PDS parent to have better insight into PDS kids’ placements than a “long time private school parent”. That said, yes, of course the biggest single school where PDS girls go on to is Holton, it’s natural, the schools are located across the street from each other and Holton starts in 3rd right when PDS ends. Landon used to take many boys but that has changed in recent years. I stand behind my statement that a good number of kids also go on to Sidwell considering that 3rd is an expansion year there. And if you don’t believe me call Admissions. |
| Some go to Holton. Some go to sidwell. Some go to bullis or Norwood or public or stone ridge or gds. every class is different. Historically not a lot go to sidwell. A lot used to go to Holton but not anymore. I don't think anyone goes to Landon. The point was that the original post was ridiculous and clearly posted by the school instead of a parent. It was transparent and in bad taste. |
