To all the idiots out there telling these parents who have bought iron cribs, that they are infant safety disasters, and implying that they don't care about their children are cowards spewing off at the mouth with no back up data!
Iron beds have been around for CENTURIES! And will continue to do so, I’m sure you have heard hundreds of stories over the years about the dangers of iron cribs? If your such a stupid parent and allow your children to hit their head on a bed, because you failed to lower the mattress when they are able to climb, Iron or Wood will inflict equal damage from that distance. Furthermore, if your child is teething, I am supremely confidant, that the varnish and wood stain used in wooden cribs, surpasses the toxicity levels, of iron cribs and the implication of cracked teeth. ALL products pose hazards to children in various aspects. Watch your children instead of the tube. |
I think it was the bragging about the bumper that people are calling a safety disaster. And what the hell are you talking about failing to lower the mattress?? What does that have to do with falling down inside the crib? OP, as some others have said, my son falls and bangs his head into the crib all the time and the wood seems much softer to me. He also chews on the crib and again, the wood is much softer--and thus we have lovely little beaver teething marks. I LOVE the look of the iron cribs, too, but since you are asking, I really think wood is better. |
| I have used an newer iron crib ( with bunnies) for eight grandchildren. No one ever was hurt, no chewing on the bars. Had bumper pads security tied for 4 Grown children when they were babies, same for 8 grandchildren. The bars are close so the baby's head doesn't go through. Some of you people are out for revenge or something. I can't believe some of the comments made on here. Nothing but a bunch of whinnies. Maybe your just jealous you can't afford to purchase one, as they are around $1,500.00 plus. |
I know. I prefer driving around without my infant in a carseat. It's just the style I like. |
Soothing teething with whiskey has been around for centuries. Some shit just changes. |

We have the iron crib (casablanca) and love it. The only drawback is that dc plays the bars on the crib with his pacifier. As in runs the pacifier down the bars to make a scaling noise. He will also bang his pacifier in between the bars which also creates a racket. It isn't unlivable just an FYI.
If you buy the bratt decor crib from their store in baltimore using an out of state address you can save on the taxes. They will still let you drive to baltimore and pick it up - you will save on the shipping. |
| I love wrought iron cribs! they do not off-gas with toxic glues and formaldehyde the way wooden ones do! |
| If you want it and have the budget, enjoy it! I'd have one myself if I wasn't such a tightwad. They're beautiful, and no, babies won't break their teeth on it, any more than on a spoon. |
| It's pretty. Given that my first baby slept in a dresser drawer, then the playpen from the 50's, then my neighbor's crib from the early 60's---or maybe 50's, I think it was her older daughter's crib---and was completely fine, it should be ok. BTW, we all had pretty bumpers and blankets for our kids, and they slept on their tummies with their butts up in the air, and only nursed every 3 hours even when they were first born---or had formula, the horrors!---and they were fine. Oh yeah, I'm old enough to be your mama so guess what, you probably grew up like that. AND you are alive? Who knew? |
| I think it's weird that people would care more about "prettiness" than baby safety ... Sure not every baby will be smothered by a crib bumper, but imagine if it were yours? |
Some advice: Don't call other people stupid while misusing "you're." My son was a headbanger - he banged his head rhythmically on the bars of the crib to self-soothe and help him go to sleep. My pediatrician said this was fairly common and I see from another post in the General Parenting forum that I'm not the only one. Iron is not worth not having the give that wood does. |
I know this is an old feed, but would any of you still happen to have your Bratt cribs? Would you be interested in selling if so? j.brittany75@gmail.com is my email, my name is Brittany. Thank you

| There's a sale on Gilt right now that features these Bratt cribs. Still pricey but maybe it's worth it to you. |
Cause all the kids who died of sids are here to say anything about it. My good friend lost her child to sids. He was on his tummy. It still happens. Taking that risk is unbelievable to me. |
| What about when the kid starts mouthing the rails? Isn't there a risk for too much iron ingestion? Or is there a coating (who knows what that is) that protects the crib? Steer clear if it's made in China, is all I can say. |
