Which schools are all home schools versus HGC? |
On the mcps website http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/elementary/ |
Thanks! |
| I live in aspen hill and my child will attend Barnsley/wood/rockville. However I teach at RM and want to clarify that if your kid is in the RM cluster they can go into the IB diploma program in 11th grade even if they don't test into the magnet. There is not a separate entrance test - it's a choice for all rising juniors to enter the program. |
Thanks for the clarification. I'm a PP who chose to live in the RM cluster for this reason, and for the diversity. I like that my DCs will have this option. |

CGES parent here. Please keep in mind that RM cluster will have all its elementary school boundaries redrawn with new school opening. I was just at the information meeting for the study yesterday and the only thing they were able to say with certainty is that CI will move from CGES.
Just a thought to keep in mind when you are looking at neighborhoods. |
If an in-cluster student elects to finish with an IB diploma, are the 11th- and 12th-grade classes he or she takes together with IB magnet students? |
They wouldn't even fully commit to that. It's one of the goals of the boundary study, but technically it doesn't HAVE to happen. Just like they wouldn't commit that 25%+ of students will have to relocate from each of the 3 over-capacity elementary schools. They said that may not happen...but, come on. If you are at 130% capacity, you won't be able to get to 100% capacity without shedding nearly 25%--MATH! |
You could try Rock Creek or Flower Valley which are both in the same cluster as Barnsley. |
Yes. They would all be in the IB diploma program. I know plenty of kids who were not in the magnet in grades 9 and 10 and went into the diploma program and 11th grade and did just fine. |
The reshuffling will only affect elementary schools. |
op here- this is confusing me So complicated!
|
I didn't get your response: it was a non sequitor. I was asking about whether the IB magnet students took the same classes together with those who were NOT in the IB magnet, but elected to continue with IB diploma in 11th grade. You answered about elementary school, which wasn't ever mentioned in my post. |
How are the class sizes and communities at these schools? |
|
You can find all the stats at MCPS schools at a glance
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/02505.pdf Barnsley has classes of ~20 for 1st-3rd and 26 for 4&5. It's been mentioned several times that it is huge, but it is smaller than 2 of the 4 RM cluster elementaries. |
