And by the way, it's "recurring" not "occurring." I'm thinking that if you were attending Wilson as a freshman next year, you'd be placed in the modified Honors English class, not the full Honors class. You clearly have limited comprehension skills when reading how the Honors courses will be offered.

And the craptastic behavior outside which no current parents seem willing to acknowledge or address. Honestly, if Wilson raised its standards overall for "little stuff" and worked with the community and police to encourage good citizenship in AND around the school, maybe there would be less of this big stuff.

It really does seem that the security measures worked perfectly. The guard insisted upon inspecting the metal box. The system worked despite an apparent effort to defeat it.

An arrest is a start, but given dc's youth justice system, he will almost certainly be out almost immediately and suffer no significant consequences for his action, as outlined by a recent WaPo series.

In light of the fact that was apparently these security officers suing those x-ray machines that discovered the gun, would you like to revise your opinion?

It looks like the officers did an excellent job and deserve our highest praise. They may have prevented a very bad situation from occurring.

A kid brought a gun to my MCPS high school when I was a senior there more than 20 years ago, and one of my friends back then kept one in his car all the time. I suspect that wasn't the last time either of those things happened in MCPS. Strangely enough, people who post on DCUM continue to send their kids to Montgomery County schools.

Of course I have revised my opinion, I am a good sense person. They indeed did a great job!

I still do not get why we had to learn what had happened from NBC instead of from the Principal. When I wrote those lines, my only info were Ms Martin's lines:
"During morning arrival the administration was notified of a weapon on school grounds. Following security and emergency protocols, MPD was promptly notified, and the weapon was confiscated during weapons abatement".

Parents would have been more reassured and better informed, had she (or whomever wrote the message on her behalf) explained that the gun was detected by the security guns at the entrance. The use of the "weapons abatement" term, plus the reference to the intervention of the MPD, gave me the impression that police had to enter, search and clear the school. A much more disturbing and unsafe situation.

Overall maybe. But I can tell you as a parent at Whitman (a mere 10 minutes drive down River to Wilson) I don't worry about guns at school or violence more broadly. Of course that doesn't mean nothing could or ever has happened at Whitman (there are no guarantees in life) but it is much less likely to be an issue.
