I don't live in VA, but you all sound a bit nuts. The point is to learn the material. Grades in middle school should not be a competition. If you learn the material and show it on a test, your grade should be something that informs you and your parents that you have done so. Grades should not be about "They all learned the material but this one is the Best so he gets the A!"
The goal should be for ALL kids to get As because they all learned the material. |
| I'd say it's pretty common. I had two children complete middle school at Swanson and each one of them got one B+ throughout the course of their time there, and all the rest were As |

What other letter are there? A,B, C and D only? F?
Back at home we had 1,2,3,4,5. 5 being the best. 1 was rare, minimum they gave you 2 which was still a failure. All As? Quite rare, 1-3 kids out of 30 maybe and that's in a competitive test-in school, but they also know all the material. Regular IB high school, maybe 2 kids out of 100. Here every smart kid seems to have mostly As. Do the parents beat up the teacher if their kid doesn't get an A? |
Agree with this 100%. So many people here seem to think that there should be a bell curve. |
Uh, no. Smart kids typically do the work and learn the material to earn an A. Are you of the view that grades are to be rationed or something? What a weird outlook. |
