Typically if you introduce someone as a "friend", especially of the opposite sex and there's no gay vibes they will know what you mean by that term.

That would make sense.....I think it depends on the social situation. Just because you come in with someone of the opposite sex doesn't mean you are dating that person, so I would think using boyfriend/girlfriend would work just as well.

Some of the response are hilarious, especially the Jay and Silent Bob reference.
