| The difference at home is that you control the environment and more than likely you can hear if something happens and be there in a minute, not waiting for an elevator, etc. |
That's how I think I would feel but people think I'm being odd... Our monitor works anywhere. I can watch the baby sleeping if I'm in another state even. |
| So tempting, but so not a good idea. The major difference between this and being in another room of your home is that in a hotel, there are hundreds, possibly thousands of strangers staying there as well. Plus anyone who works there (dozens of people) can easily get into your room with a programmable key. Don't do it. |
PP here. Honestly, I knew that odds were on the side of everything being fine. When I got back upstairs after maybe 45 minutes, she was sleeping just fine. Had barely moved since I left. But it just didn't feel right. We live in an apartment building, and I had no problems running the trash down to the basement or going down to get the mail, but the hotel situation just felt different. I opted to trust my gut. |
I'm in the same spot...I don't have a problem doing things in my condo building but this feels wrong. I even mentioned the good point about strangers that another poster mentioned to people myself but I keep getting told it isn't an issue because the hotel has been blocked off to the public for this event etc but it is still weird. At least my husband agrees with me. |
This same topic was in the GP forum a few years ago. It got super heated, but you might want to check there for all the pros/cons. |
| I've done with when it's just the two of us. We arrived back at our hotel late, he was sleeping, so I carried him to the room, put him in bed, then went back out to the car to get our things. |
I wish the search function was better... |
| Toddler is way too young. I would not do it. |
Yes. Once I was traveling alone with my children, who were between 2-8 at the time. I had to do laundry in the hotel's laundry room, which was on a different floor, so I left the room long enough to get that done and then immediately returned to the room. I still felt very nervous about it. Maybe your husband can stay in the room with your child and you can go to his work function? |
Yeah no..since it is his job and he HAS to be there and his colleagues were just trying to convince me to go to hang out with them I'll just stay behind happily and let him go to his mandatory event alone. |

Reason number 4,087 that I ought to be dead.
An entire generation of crappy parents. It's a wonder you folk are alive to worry about this. |
| Put him in a stroller that lays flat and take him with you. |
| Keep in mind those video monitors (or any monitor) may not work so well in a commercial building because the floors and walls are thick. |
Madeline McCann was not kidnapped. Her parents covered up an accidental death. OP- I've done it to go to the next room. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the floor though. |
