Honestly, I'm not up to debating the issue with you. I wish you nothing but peace in your spiritual journey. However you might start here if you are truly interested - 1 Corinthians 12:27 John 10:34 Luke 17:20-21 Just to get you started. There are too many other great scriptures to list. And again, if you are truly interested in spiritual growth, you'll look for the answers. I can't debate this with someone unwilling to open her mind to the possibility that there might be deeper meaning to sacred scripture. I would never claim to have all the answers. As a Christian and a minister, I caution you to avoid anyone who claims they do. We are all seekers. |

Proverbs 15:1 "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."
I like the KJV best. |
One of my favorites as well. Wish it was easier to put into practice. |
|
I love the first chapter of John.
The first few verses are so poetic and full of meaning: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. And we always put on our Christmas cards John 1:14: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. |

James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
& James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, |
| Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil. |
NP. It's not what that PP thinks, it's Jesus's teaching. If I believe in Jesus, then that's what I believe - that there's only one way to Heaven and it's through the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That's what Christianity is. |
|
So all you care about is getting to heaven? |
| The one about people not being too showy and ostentatious about the "good deeds" they are doing. I think that some of these phony virtue-signaling protestors could learn something from that one. |
|
James 4:17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
Not sure if "favorite" is the right word (I think that's Micah 6:8), but this one kicks my butt the most. When I know I should do a thing, but I don't feel like doing the thing or I'm scared to do the thing, I repeat this one to myself and more often than not, end up doing the thing.

The passage about not being showy referred to how you worship, not to your actions. Specifically, Jesus said not to stand on the street corner shouting your prayers so everybody can see you. In fact, I find the way Jesus stood up to power to be an inspiration to protest. On that note, you can't possibly argue that the guy who said "love your enemy" and told the tale of the Good Samaritan would approve of Trump's treatment of refugees. Don't get me started on his plans, with folks like Ryan and his OMB nominee Mulvaney, to gut public assistance programs, Social Security, and Medicare, all of which help the poor and the elderly. The hypocrisy is astounding as Trump tries to gut the Johnson reg so that conservative churches can give more to Republicans. Trump is a travesty as far as Christianity goes. |

Song of Songs, 8:6-7 NABRE.
I love the language of the KJV, but the translation in the NAB(RE) is one of the most accurate from the Biblical Hebrew. 6Set me as a seal* upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; For Love is strong as Death, longing is fierce as Sheol. Its arrows are arrows of fire, flames of the divine. 7e Deep waters* cannot quench love, nor rivers sweep it away. Were one to offer all the wealth of his house for love, he would be utterly despised. Also Matthew 5:3-16. Perhaps the most relevant to current events. |
That's not completely true. The passage also talks about not being too showy when you "give alms." It did I not just refer to worship. |
True. But giving alms and protesting are not the same thing, and criticism of showiness would seem to apply to the first but not the second. Jesus is the guy who overturned the money lenders' tables, in a big showy display at the Temple, after all. |
