Do ILs owe me anything or let it go?

I don't think there was any harm with DH telling them they got ripped off so they can be more careful shoppers in the future.

Well, that's a slight consolation, and a lesson learned for the ILs. You were right to tell them of course.

And rude to make his parents feel bad especially since they are typically generous otherwise.

Just enjoy the watch. If it was THAT hard to see it was a fake than nobody else will know either. Just wear it and chive on.

Let it go and tell ILs you love them and thank them for their thought and appreciate that you got 10 years of service from it!

And tell DH to suck up and buy you a new one since he had to open his big piehole.

OP said it was falling apart so I assume the watch has used up its life. However, it's not the IL's fault they were ripped off, and they don't owe anything. If they're the good people you say they are, they will probably get you a replacement on your next birthday or other gift-giving occasion, but there's no obligation. Just move on for now.

Make sure you take the watch to at least one more repair place. First guy could be a scammer trying to get you to sell your watch to him cheap.

Dear lord, you are both weird.

Of course you let it go. You/DH should never have brought it up.

Good Lord.

So your DH embarrassed them and now wants to shake them down for more? That's horrific.

Everyone should have just let it go. I mean, I would not want my in-laws to shop at the store they bought the watch from again, but live andearn. Otherwise, who cares.

You let it go.

No. Do not start a fight over this.

Just no.

Wow. Why would they owe you another watch??? Was there a signed contract that required them to provide you with a luxury watch?? They got ripped off, you enjoyed a nice watch for 10 years, and since your DH is a grownup HE can buy you a new watch of his choosing. He needs to leave his poor parents alone. Good grief!

+100 I hope this is out of character for your DH, because this story makes him seem like a selfish, grasping miser. The correct response to finding out that your parents were cheated of a lot of money is not "You owe me!" Be grateful for their generosity and the enjoyment you got from the gift, tell your DH to keep his mouth shut, and MOVE. ON.
