Help! 7th grader refuses to to do HW

There is no possible way to get him to do anything he doesn't want to do. Last night he was told to take out the trash. He dropped the recycle bin spilling bottles and cans all over the street. He just left it and refused to go clean it up.


Because in his current state of mind he feels like a complete failure, he does not care and he doesn't see a future for himself:nothing he ever does is right so why bother. This is depression.

Why not? NP here, and that might well be my approach too. Show him the alternative to getting a solid education and then let him make an informed choice about whether he wants to drop out of hs.

Because he's not in the marine corp he's a kid. He is struggling with some kind of issue that requires medical intervention and compassion, Not labor camp.

I would see your psychiatrist. Maybe he needs a stronger dose or a different medicine. "Taking the edge off" doesn't sound like the right approach if his behavior is this challenging. Also, you should see your psychiatrist frequently while trying new dosages or meds, like every 3 weeks. You might consider the genetic test for optimal med selection as well. (Not always perfect but can help.)
