I answered yes for when he was in elementary school and simply gave more information for context. Why is this a problem for you? |
because you obviously just wanted to brag about how precious doesn't find AP BC calc that hard. You realize people can see through you right? |
| Yes, but no complaints. I had a really relaxed carefree childhood (zero stress about academics) and would like the same for my DCs. I have three kids in elementary and all are able to work several grades above what they are doing now according to the school's testing. |
this that level of math is something parents definitely can/should be enriching at home. If you're not, something is wrong imo. |
Ha! |
| Unless your kid is the lowest common denominator then they will find the things easy. That is the problem with public school. We have really enjoyed private school which raised the floor of "worst student" greatly because of admissions testing. |
If you do some reading on neurology and brain development, it is a bad thing for children's brains not to be at least marginally challenged. You don't want it to be all-consuming stress, but there's some research that indicates brains that aren't challenged actually lose the ability to develop new neural pathways, have less elasticity, and are less able to learn effectively in higher grades. You always want to ensure your children are being challenged on at least 15 - 25% of their work, regardless of how naturally smart they are. |

during K? Sure, because they are still trying to get kids all at a basic level. Starting in first, they can place the kids with similar skills and even differentiate within the classroom. So your child will be placed in a group that is more challenging if needed. It sort of kicks up a notch each year (the differentiation). My son is in 4th and now brings home homework he has to explain to me. As in, he asks me to check it and I can't always without him walking through the logic.
I think it was in 1st and second where hthe homework was all over the place. Some questions so easy and others hard. One teacher explained to me that it was that way by design, so they could get a feel for where each child was in terms of learning. |
So not true. Not our experience in public school at all. |
| My child finds Math homework easy both in private and public schools. We are enriching at home with a tutor. |
NP here. You seem very offended by a reasonable comment. Why would we not want to hear from a mom of an older kid who has been there done that? I find it helpful. |
You can do this easily at home just by playing games. No need for workbooks. |
| I dunno, but I was surprised when my dear grade tested at end if fourth grade level for math in standardized testing. |
|
Trying that again without the Swype typos:
I dunno, but I was surprised when my first grader tested at end of fourth grade level for math in standardized testing. |
Same with my DC. What I do is supplement and this book is our favorite https://www.amazon.com/Primary-Grade-Challenge-Edward-Zaccaro/dp/0967991536/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1483974613&sr=1-6&keywords=hard+math+for+elementary+school |
