| More details on the tea tree oil treatment please! |
the first few days I took a cotton ball saturated in tea tree oil ( the little bottle of the stuff you can get at Trader Joes) placed it on my toe and then wrapped a bandaid around it to stay in place as I slept. warning - my husband really whined about the smell. then after that, every night I just applied tea tree oil w/ a Q tip to the outside of the toe and using a TINY syringe (one i got to give my cat meds) I lifted my toenail the best I could and squirted it in. The discolored area did not spread (as I heard it often does) and within several weeks was gone/clipped off. In an effort to prevent contracting the fungus again, whenever I use a public pool, hotel shower or such, within days I soak my feet in a tea tree oil and warm water. |
| My podiatrist has told me that there is no quick cure for this fungus toenail thing. The toenail, he says, is too hard for any vinegar to penetrate. The nail polish, though, worked wonders for my nails! It took a few months, but finally my toenails are as good as new. He said not to use the oral medication unless it is really bad fungus...he was great and I am so thankful! His office is in Germantown and Silver Spring. Dr. Majewski. 301-515-3338. |
| I also used the Vicks vapor rub method and found that it applying it twice a day to my toes got rid of the fungus! |
| Vicks worked for me too a few years ago. I only applied it at night. |
| I have two toenails on one foot that are "thick". I usually just try to file them down a bit from the top, but I really wish they were normal toenails like the others. Does this sound like fungus? |
| Yes. |
I echo what this poster says as my experience was almost identical but I only had to have bloodwork done every 6 months. I remember I took the medication for many months but it took much longer to grow a clean nail - more than a year. I also tried the polish first and it did nothing. |
| Used 1 tablespoon of clorox in a quart of water, twice a day, for about 6 weeks. Killed all the the fungus. |
